Kelly Rowland Speaks On Beauty, “It took a long while for me to know that I’m beautiful.”

No matter how many times someone told you that you weren’t beautiful or no matter how many times you felt too skinny, too fat too dark, too light or just uncomfortable with your looks; I (Don Bleek) will like to tell you that you’re beautiful on the inside and outside. Platinum-selling singer Kelly Rowland used to walk pass mirrors and didn’t want to look in them because she wasn’t comfortable with her beauty. In a blog posted on Essence.Com, Kelly opened up about personal beauty, her beauty icons and what makes her feel beautiful. Below are some excerpts:

On Her personal beauty

It took a long while for me to know that I’m beautiful. I remember going through this phase when I was younger of wanting to pass by mirrors and not look at them. That was so ridiculous. I’ve learned now that beauty starts from within. If you don’t know your worth, if you don’t know your value, if you don’t know how fantabulous you are — it’s going to be hard for other people to see it. Being appreciative of self, is beauty to me.

What makes her feel beautiful

What makes me feel really beautiful is when I wake up and my skin is acting right [laughs] and I have a really great workout. When those days come, remember you deserve them because you work so hard.

On Oprah Winfrey being her beauty icon

One my beauty icons is Oprah Winfrey. I love that fact that she’s so comfortable with herself. One of my favorite episodes of her show was when she showed millions of people how she woke up in the morning with nomakeup on. That was so selfless and revealing. She’s very real and genuine and I love that. Halle Berry is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. Same thing with Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson — especially as a kid because they have brown skin like me. I remember looking at magazines and television and seeing someone that looked like me and seeing a piece of myself in them.

Lil’ Mama Says Nicki Minaj Copied Her Style, “I’m Flattered Because She Imitated Me”

Femcee/MTV‘s America’s Best Dance Crew host Lil Mama has been silent on the music scenes; since her 2009 MTV stage crash. A few weeks ago, some critics were criticizing Mama for channeling Nicki Minaj because of her blond cut wig and high heels. Vibe recently spoke to Mama. During the interview, the Brooklyn native said Nicki Minaj copied her style, discussed on why you should stop hating on her style, her next music moves, influences and unity in female Hip Hop. Below are some excerpts from Mama’s interview with Vibe:

Interesting thing is that leftfield style is actually becoming more of the norm. How do you react to folks saying your biting Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga?
Come on, let’s be real okay. You have all these people wearing different colored hair. At the end of the day I’m a bombshell, so I’m going to do me. If I want to go platinum, I’m going platinum. Let’s not forget that we have had people doing these things way before the people who are doing it now and let’s also not forget that the black community sometimes we really hang ourselves because every time another black female gets up there and does something that may be current, we criticize each other and try to put each other down, but when Katy Perry and Lady Gaga do it, they all eat. But I’m not going to be a part of that. I’m going to do me, regardless.

Very valid point… I think the biggest style criticism was thrown at you this past MTV Movie Awards. Bunch of people thought you jacked Nicki’s haircut.
But my cut is blunt and futuristic and Nicki Minaj started wearing that bob on her head after she came to my show, so at the end of the day I know what I do and I know what I possess and I know who I am. I’m a trendsetter. The biggest form of flattery is imitation so I’m flattered. I understand the universal law. I’m not confused, I don’t feel like a follower. I started so many things that new artists are doing now anyway –my style, the way I’m aggressive on a track, the way I come through, the way my beat bangs. There are so many things that were borrowed, that I influenced that’s happening in music right, so I’m far from discouraged.

Almost 17 years later, which is also one day before ‘Pac’s 40th birthday, convicted felon, murdered and robber Dexter Isaac, admits to shooting Tupac in the lobby of Quad Studio on November 7, 1994. Isaac is a former friend of music exec Jimmy Henchmen, who paid Dexter $2,500 for the hit; according to reports. Below is how AllHipHop.Com is reporting the story:

A man has admitted to shooting rap star Tupac Shakur in 1994 after allegedly being paid $2,500 dollars by James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond inside Manhattan’s Quad Studios in November of 1994.

Dexter Isaac, a former friend of Rosemond, is an inmate currently serving life in prison for murder, robbery and other offenses.

He confessed to his involvement in the November 30th, 1994 shooting of Tupac Shakur to AllHipHop.com, after Jimmy Henchman identified him in a statement, relating to Henchman’s indictment for dealing numerous kilos of cocaine.

“I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Jimmy Henchman],” Dexter Isaac told AllHipHop.com from prison. “I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac and Biggie’s] mothers some closure.”
