The First Couple Of The New York Knicks: Carmelo & La La Vazquez-Anthony

Hands down, La La is one of the hottest chicks in the game. I love Carmelo & La La Anthony as couple. They’re a couple that I embrace, along with Jay-Z & Beyoncé and Swizz Beatz & Alicia Keys. Since Melo got traded to the New York Knicks in February, the couple have been popping up everywhere: “The View,” “The Wendy Williams Show,” the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Every stage of their apartment hunt was reported by Page Six, as was Mr. Anthony’s recent helicopter ride to Southampton, N.Y., from Manhattan for dinner at Nobu. Gosh! Life must be GREAT for the Anthony’s.

IF the formula for power-couple success is fame times two plus business savvy, the Anthony’s would seem to have the right answer. In 2008, the couple established Krossover Productions, the name suggesting a melding of their two careers. That same year, the company produced “Tyson,” the critically praised Mike Tyson documentary. It currently co-produces Mrs. Anthony’s reality show on VH1, known as “La La’s Full Court Wedding,”in its first season. (It will become “La La’s Full Court Life” when it returns on Aug. 22.)

Other projects in the pipeline at Krossover include a movie with the director Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour,” “X-Men: The Last Stand”), more reality programming for VH1 and a children’s book about bullying.

Men Of Sports: Amar’e Stoudemire In Essence Magazine

New York Knick’s player Amar’e Stoudemire has a spread in this month’s issue of Essence magazine “Men of Sports” issue. In the feature, Stoudemire talked about giving back to his community, what people are surprised to know about him, his passion and what outfits women can wear to turn his head. This issue also features other athletes such as James Ihedigbo, Curtis Granderson and Kerron Clement. Read some excerpts below:

On how he gives back to the community

My foundation is helping to cure poverty through education, especially in the hood. Everyone needs to see the link between education and getting a better job.

What you’d be surprised to know about him

I read a lot. I wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up. I still consider it after I retire.

His biggest passion (besides basketball and education, of course)

Fashion, I love Tom Ford button-downs and his tailored suits. Whenever I’m dressed up, it gives me a positive energy.

The outfit a woman can wear to turn his head

Anything from my women’s fashion line with Rachel Roy, due out this fall. Our clothes are comfortable and sexy, perfect for looking great on your way to a game.

He’s Going Back To The Bank: Shawty Lo Signed A $10 Million Deal With 50’s Cent G-Unit Label

I previous reported that Southern rapper Shawty Lo signed a deal with 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records. Lo and 50 recently stopped by Atlanta’s  Hot 107.9 to talk about their new partnership and Lo’s new $10 Million venture.

My vision, man, is to give it 100 percent, whatever we do,” Shawty said. “I really signed with 50 because I feel like 50’s a marketing genius. I’ve been watching him since he first came into the game before I even thought about becoming a rapper. But to make it short and simple, I signed a big deal with 50, $10 million deal. If that ain’t enough, he’s sitting right beside me, so let’s get it…A lot of artists come into the game and they don’t know the business side. So basically, I was one of those artists at first in the beginning. In the music business, it’s really 20 percent music and 80 percent business. If you learn the business, you can really go a long way.” (Hot 107.9)

50 said there was also a private investor who helped put up some of the money.

What Shawty didn’t know is it’s a fund with private investors,” 50 added. “That money is theirs. I didn’t actually give him the $10 million. He has a chunk of that but the rest of the money is there so he can actually launch the projects that come through. He can choose things out of the South and I’ll choose things from different territories…When he came to the actual office and played the music that he had for his new album, I knew that I was impressed.” (Hot 107.9)
