King Of The South: T.I. Talks New Album, Working With Usher & Releasing His New LP ‘Trouble Man’ Feb 2012

Since being released from prison this past September, Atlanta’s rapper T.I. (The King of the South) have been busy recording tracks for his upcoming album Trouble Man, which will be released February 2012. T.I.’s first post prison released single “I’m Flexin'” proved that he is indeed back. So far, T.I. already recorded 45 tracks for his eighth studio album. Some of those tracks include the recently surfaced club banger “Pyro,” and the title track, which features a sample of Marvin Gaye‘s 1972 Motown hit “Trouble Man.” Below are some excerpts of T.I.’s interview with Billboard.com The Juice:

On recording 45 tracks for his upcoming LP Trouble Man.

“I always do a lot of recording, so I have around 45 songs right now. I’m diversifying the project, just recoding different types of music,” T.I. told Billboard’s The Juice of “Trouble Man.”

“A lot of times, I’m taking myself out of my element,” Tip continued. “This is the first project where I’m talking about things that I’ve experienced before that I’m not necessarily experiencing now, ’cause I’m not doing a whole lot of partying. I do a little bit, but not a lot … nothing like when I was in that life.”

On working with Usher for this album and listing his dream collaborations.

” Usher and I have been putting our heads together on how we can present that perfect collaboration between him and myself,” he said. “I’d love to work with Ke$ha. I want to work with Cee-Lo,  Bruno Mars. I’d love [to work wtih] Frank Ocean, Miguel. I like to work with a lot of different people that can provide a lot of different sounds.”

In The Studio: A$AP Rocky x David Banner

After A$AP Rocky released his debut mixtape, entitled LiveLoveA$AP earlier in the month, the Harlem native is continuing to stay afloat and he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. A recent picture of A$AP Rocky in the studio with David Banner surfaced on the Interweb. In October, Rocky signed a $3 million record deal with Polo Grounds Music/RCA Records. This past summer, the 23-year-old rhyme spitter became popular and made a name for himself with his singles “Purple Swag” and “Peso,” which got millions of views online and is in heavy rotation on New York’s radio station Hot 97.

No word on what they recorded or what project their track is featured on but we sure are in for a surprise or two.

She’s Still Winning: Nicki Minaj Named Billboard’s ‘Rising Star Of 2011’

In the beginning I did not acknowledge Nicki Minaj because at the time she hasn’t proved herself as an artist to me. After seeing her dominated a prominently male industry in the last year, I have to admit that I am very proud of Minaj’s success. The Queens native has been named Billboard’s “Rising Star” for 2011. Her debut album, Pink Friday sold over 1.6 million copies worldwide. The Rising Star Award acknowledges Minaj’s phenomenal year and will be presented at the Billboard Women in Music Event on Dec. 2 in New York City.

I am deeply honored to be recognized by Billboard,” says Minaj. “My nation of barbz and I have come a mighty long way; yet we are nowhere close to where God will take us. Sit back and enjoy the ride.”

In other Minaj news, she will be releasing her new album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded on February 14 (Valentines day). Over this past weekend, Minaj won two awards at the American Music Awards, taking home honors for Best Rap Artist as well as beating out her CEO Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne for Best Hip Hop Album Of The Year.

Why did you decided to stop practicing law to pursue a career in the field of Public Relations?

I was laid off my job and took that as an opportunity to pursue something I always loved but was afraid to do.  I have always been a creative person and loved fashion so I took a risk and pursued my dreams and thank God it worked out.

Trina Is Still The Baddest: Hip-Hop’s Diamond Diva

12 years later, Miami’s femcee Trina is still the baddest chick in Miami. The platinum-selling rapper is busy in the recording studio working on her new album with Rick Ross, giving back to her community, running her own Pink Diamond Couture clothing line; and managing the Diamond Doll Foundation, a mentoring program for teen girls. Below are a few excerpts:

On her evolution as an artist.

“I was just growing,” she says. “Whether it was love, unhappy moments, fun, partying, hanging out with friends, traveling outside the country, all of my experiences were a part of my albums. Every time I did a record, I took it all into the studio.”

On busting up in a male dominated industry.

“Of course, rap was still a male-dominated game,” she admits. “And I came into it around a bunch of guys like Trick Daddy and Rick Ross, who were just real strong dudes.

“But coming up among men, you get that hardheadedness, that toughness about you. So I got the best of both worlds, because I had the guys there to give me the tough part, and then it was up to me to just keep my sexy going,” she laughs. “It kinda balanced out!”

Behind The Scenes: Fat Joe Ft. Chris Brown “Another Round” Video Shoot

New York’s rapper Fat Joe linked up with V.A.’s R&B singer Chris Brown for his new single “Another Round.” The two begin filming the  Colin Tilley-directed visual for the track earlier this week in Southern California. Fat Joe is looking very nice and skinny. He recently lost 100 pounds. A blond-headed Chris Brown was rocking a Versace for H&M velvet bomber jacket. In the visual, Joey and Breezy were surrounded by pyramids and beaches and sand. The visual has a Egyptian theme to it. Joey is in the studio working in his new album.

Front Page Him: Drake Covers Jet Magazine

Drake is covering the latest issue of Jet magazine (on newsstands November 28). In the cover story, Drake talks about respect in the rap game, using his music a capsule, on what Take Care means and much more. Below are a few excerpts:

On respect in the rap game.

“I think that it’s evident that I’m myself, and I think people respect me for that across the board, he says. I get respect from the guys who are respected for being real rapper’s rappers. I get respect from women. I get respect from mothers, fathers and kids. It’s very humbling and flattering and incredible, and I’m honored to be in this position because I get to be myself. And I get a lot of love for it.”

On using his music as a time capsule.

“Music is the only way that I can really vent and tell my story. It’s definitely personal. It’s definitely very vivid, detailed, and I feel it’s an incredible chapter of my life documented,” he says. “All these albums and mixtapes are just time markers for me. Pictures and social media are great, but I think the best way for me to remember real feelings that I’ve experienced is to make music about it.”

On what Take Care means to him.

“So was he feeling a bit overwhelmed “Yeah, that’s just the mode I was in. I know the album isn’t the most energetic body of work in the world. I wanted people to be with me because my life isn’t just one big party. There are moments I have where I’m by myself, and it’s very reflective,” he says. “I have a desire to come back and do some more aggressive music, because I truly enjoy those anthems and those moments as well. But I think this album is a great balance.”

On moving on to the next album.

“I think I’m very hard on myself.  I don’t really give myself too much time to be happy or celebrate. Like this album, I’m very proud of it. People are giving me great feedback, but at the same time, I’m sitting on my bus already listening to new beats. I’m trying to figure out what I could do better or what my next move is. I’m obsessed with getting better.”
