Roll Up For This Issue: Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa Covers Rolling Out

Hip-Hop’s hypnotic duo Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa are covering the latest issue of Rolling Out. The two recently released their collaborative film Mac And Devin Go To High School and accompanying album, which includes 13 songs. In the cover story, Snoop and Wiz talked about their mutual respect for each other, love for marijuana, greatest thing about Hip-Hop and much more. Below are some excerpts:

It’s not unusual for hip-hop fans to get excited when two top-notch rappers collaborate. What makes this connection special?
Snoop Dogg:

It’s organic. It’s not forced. No one called Wiz and told him to do it and no one called me and made me do it. We did it because we felt like it was the right thing to do. It was the fans who embraced it as something that we’re suppose to be doing. We both know [there’s] a natural connection.

There has to be a mutual respect to bring both of the camps together. How are you guys inspired by each other?
Wiz Khalifa: Snoop’s work ethic. He continues to always work. People always talk about rap legends and give them accolades. Snoop is still going and he’s the only artists still going hard. He keeps it like that. No one is making it happen for him or telling him to do that. It’s him doing that and staying consistent.
Snoop: I’m inspired by Wiz’s spirit. He makes everyone feel as if they are a part of his situation. He has the right mind to lead. He leads with precision. To know that you’re a leader, you have to give them something to follow. He takes his time with what he does. He had my entire house in love with him. My family was excited that we were working together from day one.

Winter 2012 Footwear: Swizz Beatz X @ReebokClassics Kamikaze (Concrete Orange)

The concrete orange colorway of the Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikaze were recently released. These Kamikaze 3 features a cool grey with splashes of black. A hint of orange peeks through the tongue to lend a little fluorescence to the silhouette, but overall this one is for the grown-ups looking to hit the Hexalite without the hypercolours. Look for these at SNKRS.

Breaking Down The Record: French Montana Speaks On Making “Shot Caller”

Bronx native French Montana is one of the hottest, if not the hottest new rappers in NYC. The newly signed Bad Boy Records recording artist is now letting his fans make the decision of choosing his singles. French recently talked to XXLMag.com about the way he picks his singles.

I think it’s because the way I do my thing now,” said French. “I changed my format. I don’t pick songs no more. I put out a mixtape [and] the most requested song, I go with that one.

The story of that beat, I had did that for Funkmaster Flex,” French said. “I always liked that record [‘Funky Child’ by Lords of the Underground.]. The part that was catchy to me was the horns on the ‘Funky Child’ record. I went to my producer, Harry Fraud. He sat on it, he didn’t want to do it. But I came in the studio one day and made him do it. Then Charlie Rock was just there while we was making the beat, then he kept coming out with that melody on the chorus of ‘Shot Caller.’  Then I said,  ‘you need to go in there and do that.’ The song started playing in the strip clubs and took off from there,” added French

Closet Full Of Red Bottoms: Emily B Shows Off Her Shoe Game

They say Christian Louboutin’s are a girl best friend. In the upcoming issue of PYNK Magazine, Love & Hip-Hop cast member Emily B is showing off her expensive shoe game, which includes a lot of red bottoms. Inside, she talks about the most she ever spent on some stilettos as well as what shoe she believes every girl should have in her closet. Below are some excerpts:

What’s the most you’ve spent on one pair of shoes?

$5000. And they were special edition – crystallized, but I would never do it again. It would have to be a very special occasion. Other than that, I don’t want to spend over $3000. Never again.

Do you find that your passion for shoes influences you as a stylist?

It’s just a part of being a stylist. I love to shop, I love fashion, and I love girly things. Shoes are definitely an inspiration for me. I start off with the shoes and work my way up and around it.

Every since signing to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label back in 2008, J. Cole have been on his grind. He released a few mixtapes and EP’s including The Come Up, The Warm Up, Friday Night Lights, and Any Given Sunday EP. He was also nominated for his first Grammy Award for “Best New Artist.” In an interview with MTV, Jay-Z expressed how happy he was for his protegé and feels that J. Cole already won “best new artist.”

I think it’s great for him, because I’m sure it’s a dream of his. We grew up seeing Michael Jackson, and I’m sure he grew up seeing whatever moment stuck in his mind, so I know it’s great for him to do that,” said Jay-Z.

Jay-Z continued and said, “I think he’s already won Best New Artist, to me. His journey is what I’m really excited about.”

The person he is today is not who he was when he first walked in,” Jay said of Cole. “He got a chance to really go out, see what worked, see what people connect to, figure out how he was gonna tell his story.”
