Fashion Me Dope: A$AP Rocky Wearing A $1,750 Phillip Lim Braided Leather Biker Jacket

Last week, Harlem’s rapper ASAP Rocky was photo’d with fashion designer Jeremy Scott at the Very.com U.S. launch party at Soho house in NYC. Rocky was styling on them lames in a $1,750 3.1 Phillip Lim braided biker leather jacket, which is from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection. This jacket features silver hardware detailing. Rocky style is dope. I think he has a good eye for fashion. I am a fan of Rocky’s music too. Much success in all of your future endeavors, Rocky.

This Is A Dope Gift For The Holidays: Fabolous’ ‘There Is No Competition 3’ Mixtape Will Be Dropping On Christmas Day

A few weeks ago, I reported that Brooklyn’s rapper Fabolous will be releasing his new mixtape, entitled There Is No Competition: Death Comes In 3′s, this month. The DJ Drama hosted disc will be dropping on Christmas Day (December 25) and features collaborations with Lloyd Banks, Trey Songz, Ne-Yo, Red Café and Paul Cain. Fab recently spoke to XXL about the tape. Below are some excerpts:

On the official set date for the tape.

With this mixtape—it’s Christmas time, I wanted to do something for the fans,” he tells XXL. “People are [going to be] home all week, it’s a great time to get in people’s brain all week.”

Fab is certain that the disc will drop on Christmas.

“I hate saying dates [because] certain things happen and you waiting on other people too,” he explains. “Sometimes its out of your hands [but] I’m almost certain we gonna have a Christmas release. I might even push it back [to] later on in the evening just to make sure [everything is] good.”

Fab explains that TINC 3 will feature him “bullying” again.

I got some original joints on there but, there’s also more energy with this one,” he says. “I think with the first There Is No Competition, it was more like [me] just rapping and spitting but, this one I wanted a little more energy just because coming off of Soul Tape, that was like my perspective flows, slower beats, and stuff like that so I wanted to give the Ying to the Yang. I wanted to give these niggas some ignorant [shit] but still bars.”

On if TINC3 will be the final chapter in the mixtape trilogy.

“I don’t know if I’m gonna go further because I feel like three is enough for a series.” “I think that’s what happens with movies sometimes with the ‘Jason Part…’ 9s, 10s you [end up] losing a little bit of flavor because you’re just recreating the same thing ten times,” he shares. “So, I think this one might be the final installment of the There Is No Competition series.”

Would You Wear Her Clothes? Nicki Minaj Readies Clothing Line

Breaking records on the Billboard charts, proved that Nicki Minaj is a talented femcee and is considered the most prominent female rapper in the last 3 years. This Queens native sure does know how to get attention in the fashion world with her over-the-top outfits. According to StyleCaster, Minaj is working on a fashion line. Below is how they’re reporting the story:

“Given today’s celebrity machine encourages cashing in on any branding opportunities (I’m looking at you, Kardashians), it comes as no surprise that insiders are saying Minaj has her eyes on developing a clothing and beauty line too. “With her team, we’re all working and in discussions on a fragrance deal,” says Mark Cheatham, a music agent at Creative Artists Agency. ‘We’re also in discussions with different apparel companies as well. We’re expecting that will make her a mainstream brand.'”

Nowadays rappers launching clothing lines is somewhat a big deal. Jay-Z, Diddy, T.I., Young Jeezy and Meek Mill have their own clothing lines. I support Minaj in launching a fashion line. Would you wear clothes from Minaj’s line?

Hustlaz Ambition: Young Jeezy Talks Working With Jill Scott, Andre 3000 and Jay-Z

Rapper Young Jeezy is busy in NYC promoting his new album Thug Motivation 103: Hustlaz Ambition. Earlier in the week, the Atlanta native appeared on 106 & Park, stopped by radio stations Hot 97 and Power 105.1 and held an album release party at the Gramercy Theatre. In an interview with Vibe, Jeezy talked about working with Jill Scott, Andre 3000 and Jay-Z. Below are some excerpts:

On working with Jill Scott for his song “Trapped.”

“Jill wrote that. I hit Jill up and I sent her a record and she was like ‘nah I’m cool’ and she’s like give me a week or two and I’ll come up with some shit and send it to,” Jeezy tells VIBE. “She sent it to me on another beat that one of her guys did with some producers she was dealing with, and we couldn’t really get the business together, so I went and reached out to J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and got her vocals and we built the song all over again, and I just gave everything I had.”

“You know that record to me is like a day in the life — you know matter of fact that’s my life summed up in a couple of verse — I feel like this record is special, it’s going to touch mothers and sisters and aunties and things like that because those are the strong people in our community, like that record my mother hasn’t heard that record yet. But when she hears it she’s probably going to be in tears because she’s going to know everything I said was true, and then she’s going to feel like I didn’t forget it because that’s what I use for my hustler’s ambition. That’s what I fuel off, the fact that I went through all that.”

Not From Houston But He Rap-A-Lot: A$AP Rocky Speaks On The South Influencing His Music

This 23-year-old Harlem native has a passion for fashion. If he wasn’t rapping, he would be a “music video-directing fashion stylist.” Not only is A$AP Rocky co-signed by Drake but he is also featured on his “Club Paradise” tour. This past summer, Rocky dropped his singles “Purple Swag” and “Peso,” which were very popular, successful and eventually led him to signing a $3 million record deal with Polo Grounds/RCA. In a recent discussion with Rap-Up, Rocky talked about the South having an influence on his music, his top five emcees and being friends with Drake.

You’re not from Houston, but you’ve been influenced by the Southern music scene. How so?
It’s just the culture. I’ve been sippin’ for a while now. When I’m in that zone and you hear those low-pitched voices and chopped-up music, it’s just kind of groovy, if that’s a cool word to use.

Who are your top five MCs?
Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, and Dylan [“Chappelle’s Show” reference]. Nah seriously though, I’m into a lot of them. Those A$AP guys are crazy though. They got next. I would like to work with Kid Cudi, Kanye, Pharrell, maybe Snoop Dogg. I wish I could have worked with Michael Jackson.

What’s Drake like as a friend?

He’s cool, fun, and a real genuine guy. I guess that’s how Canadian people are. I’ve been meeting a lot of Canadian people lately and that’s how they all are. They’re nice, polite, and good-hearted people.
