Rapper French Montana has been making noise lately, with his single “Shot Caller”. The official visual for the remix featuring Diddy and Rick Ross was released earlier in the week. Montana is in the studio working on his debut album, entitled Excuse My French. The disc is scheduled to hit shelves later this year. In an interview with VIBE, this Bronx native revealed that an unreleased track with Max- B will be feature on the album. Montana was recently in the studio with Mase, who is also featured on the disc. Below are some excerpts:
So this album, everybody is waiting for it. How far along are you with the project? Right now, we already got a lot of tracks to pick from and tighten up to make sure it’s a masterpiece.
Producer-wise, I know you already mentioned some big names. Are there any big secrets you can let us in on? For now, definitely Harry Fraud, Lex Luger. Southside, J. Cardim, Young Los, Dame Grease. I’m going to keep the big ones in the back until its time.
Were there any cats you were trying to get it that didn’t happen? Not really. Ain’t nobody like that that I really want on my album. Only person I really wanted to work with was Max B. That’s about it. I got the whole Coke Boys on my album. Ross, Diddy, and Max B so far.
So the Max B joint is something nobody has ever heard? No, no, never. Yeah, nobody has ever heard it. The song is called “Hey My Guy.” It was a Young Los joint we had did one day in the house. The song was just so crazy that I just saved it. Now, I just got it. It’s tucked in. I knew that was going to be for my album.
You recently tweeted a picture of you and Mase in the studio. How did that happen? I got Mase back in the studio working on my album. I was going to see Puff in LA. He just called me out of nowhere. I’m like, ‘Who’s this?’ He said, ‘It’s Maasse.’ I’m like, ‘Man, where you at dog?’ And he like, ‘I’m coming to New York.’ And he came up into the studio.
Is that important to you, doing songs with rappers from different regions? That’s something that hasn’t been done. I guarantee a lot of people are going to start doing it. When is the last time a New York rapper and a down south rapper collabo on a mixatpe? Everything I do is new.
