RACISM IS STILL ALIVE! Black 17-Year-Old Boy Shot To Death By White Man During All-Star Game

In the age of Obama, racism is still alive! Before it was concealed, now it is out in the opening. My deepest prayers and condolences go out to the family and friends of Trayvon Martin. Below is how Reuters is reporting the story:

(Reuters) – The family of a 17-year-old African-American boy shot to death last month in his gated Florida community by a white Neighborhood Watch captain wants to see the captain arrested, the family’s lawyer said on Wednesday.

Trayvon Martin was shot dead after he took a break from watching NBA All-Star game television coverage to walk 10 minutes to a convenience store to buy snacks including Skittles candy requested by his 13-year-old brother, Chad, the family’s lawyer Ben Crump said.

“He was a good kid,” Crump said in an interview, adding that the family would issue a call for the Watch captain’s arrest at a news conference on Thursday. “On his way home, a Neighborhood Watch loose cannon shot and killed him.”

Trayvon, who lived in Miami with his mother, had been visiting his father and stepmother in a gated townhome community called The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford, 20 miles north of Orlando.

As Trayvon returned to the townhome, Sanford police received a 911 call reporting a suspicious person.

Although names are blacked out on the police report, Crump and media reports at the time of the shooting identified the caller as George Zimmerman who is listed in the community’s newsletter as the Neighborhood Watch captain.

Without waiting for police to arrive, Crump said, Zimmerman confronted Trayvon, who was on the sidewalk near his home. By the time police got there, Trayvon was dead of a single gunshot to the chest.

“What do the police find in his pocket? Skittles,” Crump said. “A can of Arizona ice tea in his jacket pocket and Skittles in his front pocket for his brother Chad.”

Zimmerman could not be reached for comment on Wednesday evening at a phone number listed for him on the community’s newsletter.

Crump said the family was concerned that police might decide to consider the shooting as self defense, and that police have ignored the family’s request for a copy of the original 911 call, which they think will shed light on the incidents.

“If the 911 protocol across the country held to form here, they told him not to get involved. He disobeyed that order,” said Ryan Julison, a spokesman for the family.

“He (Zimmerman) didn’t have to get out of his car,” said Crump, who has prepared a public records lawsuit to file on Thursday if the family doesn’t get the 911 tape. “If he never gets out of his car, there is no reason for self-defense. Trayvon only has skittles. He has the gun.”

Since Trayvon, a high school junior who wanted to be a pilot, was black and Zimmerman is white, Crump said race is “the 600 pound elephant in the room.”

“Why is this kid suspicious in the first place? I think a stereotype must have been placed on the kid,” Crump said.

Music artist and fashion designer Kanye West is still in France, working on his womenwear collection. This past Tuesday (March 6), West debuted his Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection in Paris. Back in 2009, he was spotted rocking a pair of Air Jordan IV “White/Cement” sneakers. West paired his kicks with denim jeans and a black tee-shirt. The Air Jordan 4 “White/Cement” are now available at sneaker retailers. They were originally released in 1989 and resurfaced in 1999. Peep the pictures below:

Roc Nation rapper Jay Electronica took to his official Twitter account this morning Thursday (March 7), and revealed to his followers that his long-delayed album, entitled Act II: Patents of Nobility is finished and will be turned in tomorrow. In November 2010, Jay-Z signed Jay Electronica to Roc Nation. Electronica is f**king dope! I believe he has a lot of potential and is very talented. I can’t wait until his album is in stores. Catching Up With Cassie: The Singer/Model Speaks On Her Relationship With Diddy, Kanye West’s Womenwear Collection & Nicki Minaj

While in France for ‘Paris Fashion Week’, singer and model Cassie stopped by Tim Westwood’s radio show on BBC Radio 1Xtra to promote her new single “King of Hearts.” While there,  Cassie spoke on various topics including Kanye West’s womenwear collection, meeting former Bad Boy rapper Shyne for the first time, her rumored relationship with Diddy, new album and much more. Below are some excerpts via Rap-Up.

On Kanye’s new womenswear line: “It looks really, really great. The quality of it is really good and you can see that he’s grown since his last show.”

On meeting Shyne during Paris Fashion Week: “He is one of the nicest people, just like Rick Ross, and down-to-earth. I like when people have very little words when they speak. When they say something, it means something. They’re not just talking to hear themselves talk.”

On her rumored romantic relationship with Bad Boy boss Diddy:“I choose to say that I don’t talk about my personal life, but he is one of my very good friends.”

On her sophomore album title: “Electro Love is no longer the name of the album. I switched it. I’m gonna announce it on my website.”

On whether Nicki Minaj will appear on the album: “Possibly,” she said before Westwood responded, “That means yes.”

On reconnecting with Ryan Leslie, who produced her debut: “I still haven’t worked with him on this album, but we did meet and he heard my new music. I’m still open to do something ’cause we’re not done until we’re done with it.”

Spotted In New Jerz: Jay-Z & His Childhood Friend Emory Jones Sitting Courtside At The Nets Game

Last night Wednesday (March 7), I attended the NJ Nets vs. L.A. Clippers game at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Part owner of the Nets/music mogul Jay-Z and his childhood friend Emory Jones sat court side to watch the game. The final score was 101-100, in favor of the Nets. Jay-Z was styling on them lames in a pair of Nike Air Yeezy 2 sneakers, denim jeans and a black tee-shirt.

If you guys are not familiar with Emory, he and Jay-Z are childhood friends. He was released from the Feds in 2010. This guy is a real street dude and he was also the person who put up the money to start Roc-A-Fella. Back in 2010, Jay-Z sent over his personal Maybach to pick up Emory from the Feds. On Jay-Z’s Kingdom Come album, he dedicated a song, entitled “Do You Wanna Ride” to Emory.
