Hottest In The Streets: Chi-Town Rapper Chief Keef Talks Visiting NYC, Meeting With Atlantic Records, Offer From Birdman, Collabs & More

Over this weekend, Kyle Kramer of the RedEye interviewed up & coming Chicago rapper Chief Keef. This 16-year-old emcee has become one of the hottest unsigned artists in the streets. His buzz is crazy! Keef “I Don’t Like” visual has almost two-million views on YouTube. The song became so popular, that Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music family are putting out an official remix. During his interview with RedEye, Keef talks about his trip to New York City, meeting with Atlantic Records, offer from Birdman and YMCMB, Chicago’s Hip-Hop scene, his upcoming collaborations, being on house arrest and much more. Below are some excerpts:

What was that trip to New York like? It was cool.

Did you meet Kanye? Nope.

Who did you meet with out there? We met with everyone: Mark Ecko, Complex Magazine, Shade 45 or something [Manager: “Atlantic Records, Bad Boy Records, Fader”], XXL.

Did you meet with Cash Money? No, I talked to Birdman. We’re going to Miami, though.

That’s pretty cool. So you still haven’t signed a deal or anything yet? Nope. Just have labels talking.

A lot of other people I’ve talked to in Chicago have said “Chief Keef, his realness, that’s what makes people like him so much.” And you’re saying kind of the same thing. What do you think it is about you that’s so real that people see? Like I said, I say what’s real. I say what’s going on right now. What we doing. I just say what’s going on with the girls, what they doing, and the n****, and everybody, the people, just people period. What’s going on. What we doing, what my guys doing, what I’m doing and what’s happening right now. So that’s what I do. People like that. And they like my squad. They like how we be rocking to the music.

Do you think videos have helped? Yeah, videos have helped. Visuals are going to always help. ‘Cause like [someone] hearing a song, like if you always look, Gucci [Mane] songs or somebody’s songs, their visuals always be more than the songs. The songs be at like, 50,000 [views on YouTube] or something like that; the visuals – like 5 million [views] or something like that. ‘Cause [audiences] like seeing, they like looking at videos. Like, who wouldn’t like – people like watching movies and all that. Especially videos – music videos.

Are you at all worried about jumping into this industry at age 16? Nah. I’m ready to rock.

You kind of brought the spotlight to Chicago. Do you think there’s something special about Chicago right now? Yeah. This is New Chicago, new era. We got our own little flow. East Side. Like the West Side got their look, Houston, Texas got their look, now we got our look on, that we created, the new generation, the new era. We created the New Chicago thing now that’ll probably have everybody from Chicago rapping like this in the future. Rapping like – we set that trend and everybody rap like that now. Rap how they rap now. Everybody in Chicago starting to rap like, you know what I’m saying. Starting to use [Chicago producer Young] Chop beats too. So you starting to hear a lot of ‘Young Chop on the beat.’ Everybody in Chicago starting to have a Young Chop beat now.

As far as the collaborations you’ve got coming up – Yo Gotti, Young Jeezy, Waka Flocka, my guys, Soulja Boy. I’ll probably do something with Wiz. Rich Kidz. Something with DJ Drama – he ain’t an artist but he’s a DJ.

What do you think it’s gonna be like when the Kanye remix drops? Are you excited? Have you heard what he’s going to do with it yet? No, and that’s crazy that I couldn’t hear my own song yet. I don’t like that.

Is She Really In Hov Lane? Nicki Minaj Talks Her Explicit Lyrics, The Black Community Not Being Supportive & Going Pop

Still riding the wave off the success of her number one album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nicki Minaj is featured in The Guardian. The UK publication caught up with the Queens native for an interview. Inside, Minaj talked about how she came up with her stage name, the Black community not being supportive, singing, making Pop records, her explicit lyrics and being a business woman. Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is in stores and on iTunes now.  Below are some excerpts:

On why she changed her name from Onika Maraj to Nicki Minaj? (Her childhood friends always called her Nicki).

“Somebody changed my name. One of the first production deals I signed, the guy wanted my name to be Minaj and I fought him tooth and nail. But he convinced me. I’ve always hated it.”

On the Black community not being supportive.

“Why in the black community have we got to hate on each other? Gaga didn’t on Madonna… we’re helping each other.”

On singing and people saying she went Pop.

“You hear me singing. And that’s the thing. I really want you to write that. Because it’s the most bullshit thing I’ve ever heard – you liked me only when I was doing rap. I never only did rap. My first single was called “Your Love”, and it was a pop song. I did a song called “Knockout” with Lil Wayne about three years ago. Nobody said anything about that. Why? Because it didn’t become huge like “Starships”. That’s what irritates me. People always want to talk about who I was, but I’ve always been singing, always been experimenting with pop music. So the fact that it got huge one day, should I apologize for that? Should I apologize that “Starships” and Super Bass did well, and children like them, and Middle America can sing along? There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m just broadening my fan base. I think everyone should enjoy music.”

On people asking her to stop using swears words.

“Why do people ask me to lose swear words? Do people ask Eminem to lose swear words? Do they ask Lil Wayne to lose swear words? I did an interview the other day and when I saw it back I’m like, why the hell did she make the interview all about some goddamned kids? It was crazy. Five-year-old children shouldn’t be the subject of a Nicki Minaj interview.”

On being a business woman.

“Absolutely. Everything I do, I do with business in my head. If you’re not savvy, this business will eat you alive. A lot of people see it as a big party. And when that party is up, what are you going to do? I want to show little girls that the possibilities are endless. That’s my goal – to not only do it for myself, but to show them I can do whatever I put my mind to. I don’t give a damn if I was born poor, I can come out of this shit with something to offer my children and grandchildren.”

Did He Get A Quickie In The Maybach? Kanye West Caught With His Pants Down With Kim Kardashian

Aren’t we all guilty of this? Sometimes we’re just so excited that we can’t hold-off until we get in the house and we end up getting it popping in the car. Lol. That’s exactly what Kanye West and Kim Kardashian allegedly did. It’s rumored that Yeezy and Kimmy were spotted getting in a quickie in the back of Kanye’s Maybach. Paparazzi caught the twosome hopping out of Yeezy’s car to go back to his Manhattan apartment. Yeezy sure did forgot to pull-up his pants. Peep the pictures below:
