President Obama Re-elected!

Many of us are extremely happy that the election is over and we can finally return to a sense of normalcy this morning.  With the re-election of President Obama there seems to be a consensus from the right-wing folks who think that the President’s re-election is due to Americans voting for him because we depend on social programs that are “hand-outs.” To that I say workers have paid $5 trillion into the Social Security system above what has been spent in the last 75 years. The money goes into the Treasury, and the Treasury gives the SSA (Social Security Administration) treasury bonds. So, in essence, $5 trillion of the national debt is owed to the SSA, which means that it is owed to us, the American workers who have paid and are continually paying into the system for all our working lives. Getting your own money back is not a handout.

The same goes for SNAP (food stamps), disaster relief, unemployment, and so forth. That’s not to say that there are some people out there who don’t abuse the system, but that’s like saying one crooked cop makes all cops crooked. Most of us pay our taxes into the Treasury in the belief that if things go bad for us, and we need help, that help will be there for us, and if we don’t need that help our fellow citizens will. Getting the money back that we paid in is no more a “hand-out” than having your insurance company pay to repair your car is a “hand-out.”

  1. @Jillian, I am beginning to believe that political candidates work extra hard to confuse us with the jargon that they know most of us won’t understand…… And you know why???? Unfortunately, most of us won’t do the research to determine if what they say is true or not! Hopefully, this election will motivate people to do their research before choosing a political candidate!

  2. @Anonymous, thanks! I by far am not a politically savvy person, but I am smart enough not to believe everything I read or see on a commercial, and the idea of a political candidate thinking we are lazy for using our own money is quite laughable in my opinion!

  3. @retrocharmstar, thank you! It’s a simple idea/process that people try to turn into something else.

  4. @Nikki, THANKS! A litttle knowledge goes a long way!

This article explained things in a simple way whereas most political articles and debates can seem like a foreign language.

This is an excellent article! The best well written article I have read in a while…as it pertains to government funding.

Knowledge is POWER and the more we know the less we can be easily fed lies! I seriously had no idea that’s how it worked. The more you know the more you can grow. I will be spreading the word. Thanks Tam!!

  9. @Kia thanks! People are so caught up in their emotions and feelings that they are avoiding the facts! Fact is, neither candidate was perfect, but each voter had to choose the man who they thought would best address the needs of this country! I believe that both sides had some good ideas, but we can’t ignore the fact that a man who has never struggled financially can not possibly relate (he may sympathize, but he can’t emphathize) to the 47% percent of us that work every day not because we necessarily want to, but because we have to.

Oh my Goodness! This article is very well written and sums everything up in a nutshell! You tell them @TamLewisTrue!!! Everyone keeps talking about this deficit as if it hasn’t existed for years. As president, Obama did what he needed to do to ensure that Americans were able to survive. Mr. Romney could care less about the lower or middle class. How could he possibly help us if he has never been it that situation himself!
