Fountain Of Youth: Pharrell Williams Speaks On His Secret To Looking Young

IMG_1875-582x387

Music producer, fashion designer and creative director Pharrell Williams celebrated his 40th birthday this past April, but he still looks 25. A lot of people are always talking about how young the VAGrammy Award winning producer looks and how clear and flawless his skin is. The newly married mogul recently talked to IntoTheGloss about is secret to looking young. Below is an excerpt:

You have to clean your face. You can’t sit around and assume it’s going to be OK.  I wash my face every day—don’t be afraid to wash yours before you go to bed! My dermatologist, Dr. Elena Jones, gave me the Glytone Self-Foaming Cleanser, which I wash off with cold water to close my pores. I follow that with a Toner and Moisturizer, also from my dermatologist. You have to take care of your skin. Years and years and years ago, Naomi Campbell pulled me aside and said, ‘Listen, this is what you have to do—you have to go to a dermatologist; you can’t keep using drugstore products.’ Well, you can, but with the store products you have to be really diligent. At the end of the day, you just have to take care of your face. I’m being honest with you. And, no, I don’t wear fragrance.”

A Grown Woman With A Game Plan: Keke Plamer For Rolling Out

KEKE-inside-1

Keke Palmer graces another publication and as always she slayed the cover! The actress and singer cover this week’s issue of Rolling Out. The vivacious mogul in the making has been killing these magazines lately. In the beginning of this month, Keke covered Fuzion magazine as well as Bello magazine. Shot by famed photographer DeWayne Rogers, Keke styled in various dresses, skirts, buister, tops and heels for Rolling Out.

Inside, she talked about growing up in the industry, making the transition from a child star to adult actress, balancing her personal and professional life and following her dreams. Below are some highlights via Necole Bitchie.

IMG_9549_Final-650x975

KeKe on growing up
“When people think of me initially, they remember me as ‘Akeelah [and the Bee].’ Sometimes it can be frustrating to be remembered at an age that you’ve outgrown. But at the same time, it’s never frustrated me to the point that I’ve wanted to lash out. I just take it one step at a time. I’ve been patient in letting people adapt to me and my growth.

On proving that she’s an adult
If anything, it makes you look even more like a kid! As an adult, you don’t have to go around saying, ‘Hey, I’m an adult!’ That would be like saying, ‘Guess what — I’m black!’ You know it already. I just [try to] constantly be a professional by asking for what I need in the right way. I feel like you have to tell people who you are, but you don’t have to be disrespectful about it. But you also don’t have to be a shrinking violet. For a long time, when I was younger, I would always act like a little kid and I would just [bow] down because I would never want to feel like I’m being disrespectful to someone. But at the same time, I was like, ‘I’m 18-years-old and I’m not a kid anymore.’ I don’t have to wait for people to do things for me. I started saying, ‘No, that’s not OK. This is what I want. This is what I need from you. Please and thank you.’ At the end of the day, you’re going to have to speak up for yourself — and I learned that after always being, for lack of a better word, crapped on.

[But] I don’t think that’s a lesson that comes from the industry, I think that’s a lesson that comes from life. I think no matter what you do as a young kid — you can [even] take it from your family. You may go off to college, you’re becoming independent and you go back home and your parents treat you like a kid again. To a certain extent, everybody has their place in their family, but you have to say, ‘Mom and Dad, I actually have things to do.’ And I think that’s a lesson that happens to everyone and everyone has to learn that place in their life.”

On balancing her personal and professional life
Sometimes my personal life takes a backseat. My job never takes a backseat. Sometimes I feel like my life is in shambles and I’ll still be doing my job. It’s unintentional.

On following her dreams
“I didn’t come from a lot. I had a lot of love and support from my family, but as far as money and that type of thing, I didn’t really have any of that.  All I did was follow my dreams. If my fans take anything from me, I hope it would be that. It’s not just me being so special — they are too. They just haven’t realized it yet.”

Kerry Washington Covers The November 2013 Issue Of Essence Magazine

kerry_washington-essence_nov_cover

Scandal actress Kerry Washington wears a Rafael Cennamo gold dress on the cover of Essence magazine’s November 2013 issue. For this issue, the Emmy nominee was styled by celebrity stylist June Ambrose. Inside, Washington talks about why her role as Olivia Pope has more impact on America then we think.

They are allowing an educated, intelligent, powerful, complicated, human, flawed, multidimensional Black woman into their homes. They’re not walking past her on the street, they’re not trying to avoid engaging her, they’re not ignoring her and pretending she’s somebody else’s family and somebody else’s problem…,” said Washington.

Season 3 of Scandal premieres tonight on ABC at 10pm. Are you tuning in? I am! Let’s support Black Hollywood. The November 2013 issue of Essence magazine hits newsstands October 1oth.

In related Kerry Washington news, yesterday Wednesday (October 2), the Bronx, New York-native and George Washington University graduate was spotted at NYC’s Paley Center for a special event in her honor, “She’s Making Media: Kerry Washington“. While there, Washington talked about the contributions of Black actresses to the arts and also commented on her own political activism with the John Kerry and President Obama campaigns.

KeKe Palmer Covers Fuzion Magazine’s Fall 2013 Lifestyle Issue

KeKe-Palmer-Covers-Fuzion-Magazine-8

Back in August, YDBR posted some BTS pictures from Keke Palmer’s Fuzion magazine photo shoot. See the original post here. The official covers just went viral and the child star turned adult actress and media mogul looks gorgeous on a double cover. For this issue, Keke was styled by celebrity stylist Olori Swank and shot in Los Angeles by photographer ëaštøn śçhīrrå. Keke was such an adorable little girl and it’s great to see her grown into a beautiful woman.

Inside, she talks about her doing what she wants, transitioning from a child star to an adult actress, on her competition, boyfriend, playing Chilli in the upcoming TLC biopic Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story, and fashion inspiration. Below are some highlights.

KeKe-Palmer-Covers-Fuzion-Magazine-9

On doing what she wants to do, despite outside opinions (like living with her boyfriend):

“I found that the more you stop thinking and just follow what you like and what you love, you can create your own style and other people will catch on to it.”

“Even though I’m in the entertainment industry most my advice or mentors come from outside of the industry. I don’t like to cloud my head too much with the Hollywood world—I really just talk to my mom, talk to God, my family is very close so if I have any issues I just talk to them about it and they help me through it.”

On transitioning from child star to adult actress

“It’s definitely been a, I don’t wanna say hard, but a big transition from being a kid and going up into an adult, while all being on screen.”

On her competition in the game

“I’m a perfectionist, I’m a Virgo, so it’s like I gotta do everything right especially when it comes to work…..My mom always taught me as a kid to compete with yourself.”

On her boyfriend of 3 years

“I am dating someone right now, we have been dating for three years now he’s a great guy, but I’m definitely in that part of my life where I’m really focusing on doing what I need to do and getting what I need to do get done and same as him. So it’s more so us focusing on ourselves and then getting back to each other.”

On playing Chilli in VH1’s upcoming “Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story”

“At the end the day I want her to be proud of my performance in the movie. She texted me when she saw the movie and was just like there couldn’t have been a better person that could have done it, I’m so proud of you, she and I really got a close relationship out of working on the movie.”
Alternative career- “ If I wasn’t an entertainer I would probably be a hair stylist. My family is full of hair stylist, my grandmother was a hair stylist for 40 years, my aunt is a hair stylist, my cousin is a hair stylist, I mean everybody in my family is a hair stylist, I would probably just be the loud mouth hair stylist.”

On fashion inspiration

“One of my favorite style icons would have to be Nicole Richie, I just oh my gosh, I literally go to her Instagram page and stare at it like this for about 20 minutes. Her style is so impeccable; she’s just classy, fun, cool, edgy all at the same time. As far as music I think everyone loves Rihanna’s style— I like how fearless she is, I think that’s something everybody can love about Rihanna, she does what she wants and she feels comfortable in her decisions. That’s a really hard thing to do especially when you’re in the limelight, doing what you want and being comfortable in what you and loving who you are.”

Jennifer Hudson For Manhattan Magazine

jh4

Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson covers the October 2013 issue of Manhattan magazine. For this issue, the Grammy Award winning artist was shot by photography duo Gomillion & Leupold. For the shoot, J-Hud rocked trench coats and fitting dresses from Burberry and Versace. Below are some highlights:

On the President:
“Obama is so hands-on and aware. He’ll tell stories off the top of his head about people who’ve written to him with their health issues, and he’ll remember their names and every detail. He cares enough to know.”

On “Winnie Mandela”:
“It was intimidating to play Winnie after seeing how much she means to the people. To some she’s an angel and to some she’s Satan, but either way, woo! The strength that woman possesses is amazing. We put so much into the story, and it took a lot out of us.”

On “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete”:
“It terrified me to play that part [of a heroin addict] because I had no reference point. I’m 31 and I’ve never, ever, ever had a drink or done a drug in my entire life. I stick with Diet Coke and Crystal Light and water.”

On her upcoming album:
“Should I give away the title? Let’s just say you’re gonna get Jennifer-ized!”

K. Michelle Cover The September 2013 Issue Of Sister 2 Sister Magazine

kmichellesister2sistermag2

K. Michelle sure does have a lot of reasons to celebrate. She has the #1 R&B album in the country and the #2 album on the Billboard 2oo. Her Rebellious Soul debut moved 72,000 units in its first week. Now she is covering the September 2013 issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine. Inside, she opens up to S2S Publisher Jamie Foster Brown about her past abusive relationships, music career and plans for the future. Below are some highlights:

This sassy songstress-turned-reality-TV star has never had a problem keeping it real and speaking her mind. With a new record deal, a new album and a new show, find out how and why she’s striving to shed her “villainous” image in the September 2013 issue of Sister 2 Sister.

Is there any kind if misconception about you that you think is out there?
There’s a lot of them, but I think people are starting to see. You’d think I just pop off, but you don’t see I’ve had a full conversation with this individual. You just see me curse them out. You know it’s gotta be a villain every season. Somebody’s got to bring the ratings. It falls on me; I take it. It is what it is. But I think people need to understand that I’m not always angry. I’m very calm. My manager always says I’m the most giving person out of any artist that he’s ever met. I will do anything for anybody.

What’s your show going to be like?
The real me.

I thought we saw the real you.
No, you see the angry me, but this show is more my move to New York. Like, I’m just getting in my house this week in New York. Now we found the furniture—all of this kind of stuff, and just my growth as an artist and me dating again and just me being a mother and my real friends, not the friends that I’ve been put with.
