In The Studio: A$AP Rocky x David Banner

After A$AP Rocky released his debut mixtape, entitled LiveLoveA$AP earlier in the month, the Harlem native is continuing to stay afloat and he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. A recent picture of A$AP Rocky in the studio with David Banner surfaced on the Interweb. In October, Rocky signed a $3 million record deal with Polo Grounds Music/RCA Records. This past summer, the 23-year-old rhyme spitter became popular and made a name for himself with his singles “Purple Swag” and “Peso,” which got millions of views online and is in heavy rotation on New York’s radio station Hot 97.

No word on what they recorded or what project their track is featured on but we sure are in for a surprise or two.

He’s The Future: A$AP Rocky Talks Upcoming Projects, Breaks Down His $3 Million Deal & A$AP Worldwide Signing

Harlem’s native A$AP Rocky sure is making a name for himself and has the streets buzzing with his singles “Purple Swag” and “Peso,” which gathered millions of views online and is already in heavy rotation on New York’s radio station Hot 97. Billboard caught with the Pologrounds/RCA  rapper to talk about his mixtape, record deal and future projects. Below are some excerpts:

On his new mixtape Long Live A$AP.

My mixtape is better than a lot of people’s albums.

On the $3 million deal, which is between Polo Grounds/RCA and A$AP’s company, A$AP Worldwide.

I don’t have a $3 million dollar balance in my account but the record deal was $3 million though,” said A$AP. “I got a deal with RCA/Polo Grounds for A$AP Worldwide and I got a deal with them for my solo project, my solo deal; if you combine both deals it amounts to a three million dollar deal.”

On his upcoming compilation mixtape and future projects.

Last week, the Harlem native released his mixtape Long Live A$AP, which will feature his newly signed A$AP Worldwide artists A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast, A$AP Twelvyy and SpaceGhostPurrp. Before dropping his yet-to-be-titled debut set, A$AP plans to release a deluxe edition of his current mixtape that will be marketed and sold commercially similar to Drake’s So Far Gone. After all, A$AP says, “My mixtape is a classic. It’s only right to put it out at retail.”

BREAKING NEWS: Harlem’s Rapper A$AP Rocky Signs To Polo Grounds/RCA

Harlem’s up & coming rapper A$AP Rocky just signed a record deal with Polo Grounds Music/RCA Records, it was announced today. This past summer, the 23-year-old New York native became popular and made a name for himself with his singles “Purple Swag” and “Peso,” which got millions of views online and is already in heavy rotation on New York’s radio station Hot 97. He is currently prepping his debut mixtape Live Love ASAP, which will feature members of the A$AP crew, surprise guests, and production by in-house producer A$AP Ty Beats.

I feel great about the new deal; I believe it was destined and with a label like Polo Grounds & RCA behind me I don’t see anything stopping us,” says A$AP Rocky. “I wanted go with the right partner that can help get a bigger platform to get me and my A$AP crew’s music and movement out. I expect to be in the same league as today’s most relevant artists, and there are just some things you can’t do on your own. The planis to not only release great music, culture, and style for myself and A$AP worldwide, but to also be the next major artist/exec in the business and make great business men out of my brothers.”

Bryan Leach, President of Polo Grounds Music, added, “I haven’t seen an unsigned artist with this much hustle and confidence since I signed Pitbull & Lil Jon and Rocky being from Harlem (as I am) was gravy! He dares to be himself which I love and will support fully. He’s also created great alliances and built a solid unit. Winning Rocky & his team’s confidence was not easy or fast but as they are partners I will make sure everything remains in his hands.”

A$AP Rocky will join Drake on his “Club Paradise” tour later this fall.

Congrats goes out to A$AP Rocky from Don Bleek, Dollah Tha Rapper, YoDonBleekRaps, and Billion Dollah Nation. Much success in all of your future endeavors.

Harlem’s Dipset Shuts Down The City, With Concert In Times Squares

Over this past weekend, I attended the Harlem Diplomats (Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey), with special guests Vado and ASAP Rock concert at the Best Buy Theatre in Times Square, for the last show of Red Bull Music Academy’s Five Out Of Five tour of New York City’s five boroughs. The Harlem natives, who performed with a live band, opened-up the show a little after 9pm. Performing “What’s Really Good” and other tracks off their 2003’s certified gold album “Diplomatic Immunity.” They rocked the stage for a jammed pack wall-to-wall crowd for almost two hours.

After Dipset performed as a group, they all did their solo sets. Jim Jones kicked off his solo set, by performing some of his hits such as “Certified Gangsta,” “Baby Girl” “G’s Up,” and “Harlem.” During the middle of his set, Jones kept it all the way Harlem, by bringing out up & coming rapper ASAP Rocky, who performed his hit “Peso.” Jones closed his set with “Perfect Day.”

After Jones exited the stage, Juelz Santana opened-up his set by performing some of his biggest hits including “Shotta,” “Oh Yes,” “Mic Check,” “Back To The Crib,” “There It Go (The Whistle Song)” and “Clock Work.” Santana closed out his set with “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” (minus Lloyd Banks).

Cam’ron picked up where Juelz Santana left off. Cam kicked off his solo set by running through some of his hits such as “Down and Out,” “Wet Wipes,” and “I Used To Get It in Ohio.” During the middle of his set, Cam brought out fellow U.N. member Vado. The duo performed “Speakin In Tongues,” “We All Up In Here” and “Hey Muma.” The Harlem Diplomats all came back to the stage for one final performance with all of them together, before ending the show. The Harlemites closed out the show with “Salute” and “848.” Diplomatics  Immunity 3, coming soon.
