Derrick Rose For SLAM Magazine; “My Only Goal Is To Win A Championship”

NBA player Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls is back and he’s covering the upcoming issue of SLAM magazine. Stay tuned to YDBR for more photos and quotes from SLAM’s exclusive interview with D. Rose.

This is such a dope cover! D. Rose is my second favorite NBA player (Carmelo Anthony is my favorite). I honestly want to see D. Rose win a championship because he deserves it. I just think that Rose needs more help because he is not able to increase his teammate’s level of play like LeBron James and Rajon Rondo. The Bulls needs another power player,” said Don Bleek.

Portland Trail Blazer PG Damian Lillard Talks Off-Season Training, Derrick Rose & Why He Chose The # “0”

dl1-634x422

Online sports publication SLAM recently interviewed NBA player Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers. In the 2012 NBA Draft, the 23-year-old Oakland-native was selected in the first round with the sixth overall pick by the Trail Blazers and he was unanimously named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2013. Lillard spent the off-season traveling the world and working out but he still managed to find time to talk to SLAM while he was at the EA Sports headquarters in Orlando. The Trail Blazers Point Guard spoke about what he’s been working on this summer, off-season training, Derrick Rose being an explosive athlete, watching Baron Davis play when he was growing up, why he chose the number “0” and much more. Below are some highlights:

What have you been up to this summer?

I’ve been traveling a lot, doing stuff through the NBA, through adidas. Other than that I’ve just been working out.

When you watch game film, is there anything specific you see that you want to improve on this summer?

Probably one of the main things is just different floaters and little jump-hook shots in the paint instead of challenging the bigs every time, because I got beat up a little bit over the course of the season just from attacking the rim so much. There were a lot of times when I could’ve just stopped short of the rim and just shot a floater over the top of them. Coming across the paint, shooting more jump-hooks, I could’ve took a lot of that pounding off of my body had I had those shots last season.

Is there anyone specific who you want to steal moves from?

In the League right now, I think Derrick Rose. He’s an explosive athlete and he attacks the rim, and I like to attack the rim, but he has that floater in his game. I think I need to develop it. Baron Davis is another guy who I loved to watch play growing up, and I’ve been talking to him about different ways to be more crafty with the ball. Hopefully I’ll be better next season.

You had an interesting tweet about young players placing too much value on getting buckets. What inspired that?

There’s a lot of younger guys from Oakland, from my area, guys that are in college that I follow on Twitter, and they’re always talking about getting buckets. I kinda got a little bit irritated, because there are some guys—their team needs them to get buckets, but everybody can’t get buckets. So I was just like, How are you valuable if your team doesn’t need you to get buckets? What are you gonna do?

Shabazz Muhammad said he’s wearing No. 0 this year because no one else does—but you and a bunch of other guys wear 0.

I don’t even know if he meant to say that [laughs]. Russell Westbrook, who’s I think a three-time All-Star, wears No. 0. I was just the Rookie of the Year and I wear 0. There’s a lot of guys that wear No. 0. Jeff Teague wears No. 0.

When you came into the NBA, why’d you decide to go with 0?

‘Cause I’m from Oakland, I went to school in Ogden [UT] and now I’m playing in Oregon—so it was more about the O.

SO INSPIRATIONAL! NBA Player Derrick Rose Of The Chicago Bulls Reveals New ‘D Rose 3’ Shoe & Apparel

NBA player Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls is young, well-educated, successful and very wealthy (he is an inspiration of mines). Growing up in the streets on the South Side of Chicago, in the Englewood neighborhood (one of the most notoriously dangerous communities in the country) wasn’t an excuse for Rose to get caught up in the street life and not chase his dreams. In fact, he used his community as a motivation to get out and become something positive. Last season, at 22, Rose became the youngest ever NBA MVP. At just 23, he have already played in three All-Star games in his first four seasons, have a 14-year deal with Adidas reportedly worth $250 million and a $95 million dollar contract with the Bulls.

While D. Rose is recovering from a torn ACL, he is still making major moves. He was in his hometown of Chicago to unveil his newest shoe-the ‘D Rose 3’ Signature Collection. Rose refers to the shoe as his most personal shoe to date as he’s has to rebuild his body and mindset to make a quick recover, so he re-designed his logo as well. It is being reported that he broke down in tears earlier today Thursday (September 13) at his press conference talking about the love for his and the people in it.

“The D Rose 3 signature collection is special to me because I worked side-by-side with adidas on everything from materials to fit to colors to make it the best we’ve done yet,” said Rose. “I love the new logo that calls out the most important things to me: my family, basketball and the city of Chicago.”

This shoe drops October 4.

Young, Successful & Wealthy: Chicago Bulls Player Derrick Rose Covers GQ, Talks Being Compared To MJ & Hating Celebrity Status

I always say, “Life is what you make it” and NBA player Derrick Rose sure did make the best out of it. He’s young, educated, successful and very wealthy (he’s an inspiration to me). Growing up in the streets on the South Side of Chicago, in the Englewood neighborhood, one of the most notoriously dangerous communities in the country did not stop Rose from pursuing his dreams of being a NBA player. Last season, at 22, he became the youngest ever NBA MVP; he has played in three All-Star games in his first four seasons and has a contract with Adidas reportedly worth more than $200 million. Some basketball fans already know that Chicago has a proud, historic basketball tradition, from Isiah Thomas to Dwyane Wade to George Mikan. But none of those guys ever played for the Bulls. At just 23, Derrick Rose already has an MVP award, a $95 million contract, and a direct line to the White House. Rose lives on the eighty-fourth floor of the Trump building in Chicago. He is covering the latest issue of GQ magazine. In the cover story, he talks about people being there for him, making the right choices, his family and friends being very supportive, being compared to MJ, hating celebrity status and much more. Below are some excerpts:

On people being there for him: “The people who are there for me have always been there for me.”

On being the best kid in his neighborhood and not wanting the attention: “I was the best kid in my neighborhood at a young age,” he says. “My whole life. I was always the one everyone was talking about. I’ve never really wanted the attention, but it has always been there.”

On the Jordan comparison: “I’ve run into him a couple of times, but we don’t have a relationship,” he says. “His titles drive me. I’m not scared of him; if anything, it makes me work harder when I do train.”

On his inner circle and they telling him the truth: “There’s seven of us,” he says of himself and his oldest friends, plus his brothers and his mom. That’s it. “Longest I’ve known one of my friends is third grade. Most recent, seven years. They tell me the truth. They’re not yes-men.”

On being treated like a star, hating celebrity status and that life just not him: “Chicago isn’t used to stardom. Back when Michael was here, everyone was used to actors and singers and people being at the games. But there’s been a drought since then, and even celebrities, they’ll stop here to film a movie and then pop right back out. They don’t know how to act toward celebrity. So I always have someone with me. I can have a hat on, glasses on, whatever. People still notice me. If I go outside without a hat on, I feel like I’m naked.” Rose can have the entire world, as long as he doesn’t leave his home. “This life doesn’t fit my personality.

On making smart decisions and his family & friends are in his corner for the right reasons: “I won’t ever put myself in a bad position so that people can say bad things about me,” he says. “I make smart decisions, and my friends and my family, they are all there for the right reason. I’m very mature for 23 years old, and I know that whatever I do can hurt someone.”

Breaking News: Chicago Bulls Guard Derrick Rose is the NBA’s MVP For The 2010-2011 Season

According to Stilletto Jill, Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose has been named the NBA’s MVP for the 2010-2011 season. An official announcement is expected to be made later this week. Below is how it is being reported:

As expected, Bulls guard Derrick Rose has been named MVP for the 2010-2011 NBA season. At 22, Rose is the youngest to ever win the award and the first Bull to receive the honor since Michael Jordan.

In an impressive third season, Rose is averaging 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds. The Bulls have had an incredible season. They secured the best record and their coach, Tom Thibodeau also won coach of the year honors. They’re the 12th duo in NBA history to win both awards.

Monday night the Bulls lost to the Hawks 103-95 in the first game of the second round of the playoffs. Derrick Rose re-injured his ankle and is listed as day to day but I can’t imagine him sitting out any games. It’s the PLAYOFFS after all.
