DMX’s Ex-Wife Tashera Simmons Talks To Don Bleek About How The Rapper Lost His Soul But Gained The World, His Drug Issues & Her New Book

Last week, I sat down with multi-platinum rapper DMX’s ex-wife, Tashera Simmons at the Inc Lounge at The Time Hotel for the NYC premiere screening of the upcoming reality show, Starters Wives Confidential which is set to premiere tonight Tuesday (January 29th) on TLC. Tashera is striving to get her life and finances on track while divorcing her childhood sweetheart, DMX. They have four children together. During our interview, Tashera talked about how the rapper lost his soul but gained the world, the people around him were basically “yes men” and didn’t help him, going from regular broke people in Yonkers, New York to flying around the world, her new book, Finding Tashera and much more.

Let’s take it back to the very beginning when you first started dating DMX. What was it like and what kind of person was he?

DMX was 18 when I started dating him. He was totally a different person; he was very caring, passionate, he was my biggest inspiration. His drive was crazy! I was with him 10 years before he even got into this game and I saw him lose his soul but gained the world at the same time when he was at his height. It was very scary to see and I prayed everyday that it wouldn’t take total control of him but it did.

Do you think the people who were around DMX are part of the reason for his downfalls and did they ever try to help him?

The people around him didn’t help, his drug habits didn’t help, it added to it. It was people in his face yessing him, yessing him, yessing him and the people have a lot to do with his changed and what took place in his life and he is so talented.

He is very talented! I am a fan of DMX; I remember when I first saw him live in concert with Jay-Z and Ja Rule in Philly, when I was a kid. This was probably in 2004, during Jay-Z’s, ‘Jay-Z and Friends Tour’.

Who isn’t a fan of DMX? I am a fan too! [Laugh], but I know who he is. I’ve been around so many celebrities but I never saw someone go in the studio and make something in 15 minutes. DMX is super talented and I am still rooting for him but it is not my job to take care of him anymore. I am finally free! It’s a feeling that all women wants.

I definitely hear you on that one because my mother dated my step pops for 14 years and when she had enough she just gave up and she was so happy to be free and have her freedom back.

So you can relate and we don’t want to bash them or anything, it’s just we’re happy to be free again.

I also read his book, E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX and he mentioned that you and he were childhood sweethearts, how you were there for him when y’all didn’t have nothing, then one day you guys are filthy rich; living in a mansion, driving nice cars and flying around the world. How did you make the transition from having nothing to the wealthy life because you guys were just regular people from Yonkers, New York?

It happened so fast! One day we were poor and the next day we were rich. It happened so fast that I don’t even think DMX knew how big he was. It was amazing! It was a feeling that I can’t even express in words. We went from not knowing where we were going to get the money from to pay the next bill to having a whole lot of money. We were like, “holy shit!” It was unbelievable! We first realized it, when we went into a store in the mall, because we were just like regular people from Yonkers , but they had to close the store down because people were mobbing and they had to sneak us out through the back door to exit. We just couldn’t believe it! In this industry nowadays, you have to be so strong. I also have to add that I truly love DMX and I never try to throw him under the bus because he’s a good person, he just made bad decisions.

Speaking of DMX being a good person, how did you feel when you heard him making positive songs about you?

I feel like DMX showed a lot of his love toward me in his songs. He put my name in songs, made me feel very important, and put me on a pedestal but sometimes I think “was he doing that because of the things he was doing behind my back.” He was trying to show me how much he loved me but at the same time, he was doing all this other dirt. It made me feel real portrayed like he portrayed me because I feel like I was living a lie. One day he’s talking about me to the world and then he’s doing stuff behind my back. It made me feel good but bad at the same time.

I heard that you have a book coming out. What is the name of it and when will it be out?

It’s called; Finding Tashera and it will be out the end of February.

After we ended our interview, Tashera asked me to stand up, gave me a hug and told me to tell my mother to stay strong, and she wished me the best in my future endeavors. This was by far one of my best interviews. Tashera is a sweetheart. Much success!

He’s planning a BIG 2010: Waka Flocka Readies New Album; Hopes For A DMX Collaboration

Last fall, rapper Waka Flocka released his debut album entitled, Flockavelli. The disc debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200. A little over a year later, Gucci Mane’s protegé is working on his sophomore album, entitled Triple F Life, and calling the shots for his imprint, Brick Squad Monopoly. Billboard recently caught up with this ATL native. Below are some excerpts:

Flocka on his inspiration for his upcoming album.

“Friends, Fans and Family.” “You see how evil people act for money [so] I’m doing this for friends, fans, and family,” he said. “It felt like a rushed project. I’m going to do it first quarter (2012) because I need to put my all into it,” Waka Flocka continued on his recently pushed back album, “Triple F Life.” “I felt like I was trying to please the label and not the people that really listen to the music.”

Waka on having Drake on the album’s lead single, “Round Of Applause.”

“I said, ‘Who do I need on the song to get some ladies into it?’ Let me call Drake! I met him through the engineer, we put that track together, and that was it.”

Flocka also hinted that he’s trying to get DMX on his new album.

“I’m trying to put a song together with DMX; he needs to get back on the scene!”

Flocka also plans on being the #1 artist next year.

“I’m gonna be the No. 1 artist of the year. That’s not a prediction, that’s a fact!” he proclaimed.

Throwback Friday: DMX, Irv Gotti & Jay-Z Throwing Up Their Middle Finger Inside The Studio

Back in 1998, platinum-selling rapper DMX, record producer Irv Gotti and music mogul Jay-Z were spotted inside of Sony Studios in NYC. This was considered the Golden Years of Hip-Hop. DMX is currently touring the states and is in the studio working on his comeback album. Jay-Z will be embarking on a United State “The Throne” tour with Kanye West, this Fall. As far as Irv Gotti, I haven’t heard anything about him lately. In the past, he produced  DMX’s “What’s My Name?,” Jay-Z’s “Can I Get A…”, and Ja Rule’s “Holla Holla”.

Making A Comeback: DMX Is Working On A New Album & Says “[There’s] a lot of whack rappers out there. It’s too corny.”

Since being released from prison last month, rapper DMX has been working “nonstop, everyday” on his forthcoming LP, titled Redemption Of The Beast“I kind of took it back to how I felt on my first album — the hunger, the energy, the hardness of it,” says DMX.

Producers like Swizz Beatz, Dame Grease and Caviar have contributed beats to the album, although the rapper says that he has mostly been at the studio laying down rhymes by himself.

“I’ve had a lot of late nights in the studio, getting it in, getting it back to where it’s supposed to be,” says DMX. The rapper also notes that the lyrical focus of the album will be “bringing hip-hop back to where it’s supposed to be. It’s not at a good place right now… [There’s] a lot of whack rappers out there. It’s too corny.”

There’s Still Some Animosity: DMX Speaks On His Past Issues With Jay-Z, Plus An Exclusive Video Of Their Battle

New York’s rapper DMX is expected to be released from prison early next month. In an exclusive interview with Vibe magazine, DMX talked about his past issues with Jay-Z. X and Jay were good friends at one time. Also, DMX tells the reason why he is Jay-Z had a falling out.  Below are some excerpts from X interview with Vibe:

So what really went wrong there?
I have a few inside people who confirmed my suspicions that they were trying to make me leave. Like ‘Yeah they just wanna get you out of there. ‘ That way they can do what they wanna do and this , that, and the other. If you remember, Jay quit. He retired from rapping. But he became president of Def Jam.  He gave me the call, he called me personally. So I’m like ‘yeah that’s wassup! My mans is in a position now, he’s the president of the label I’m on, we good! Next thing you know, he’s out of retirement and I’m off the label. What a coincidence.

Damn. Have you even been able to have a conversation with Jay after that? I remember when it happened.
I’ve not talked to him yet, since. But I had a show November 18th, before I got locked up–No November 12th I had the show. And somebody in the crowd was like ‘What’s up with Jay-Z’ and I was like ‘Fuck Jay-Z’. And it ended up all over the place. So he called Swizz, Swizz called me, and he tells Swizz ‘Yoo, why your man dissin me? I was gonna do a song with him’—Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Fucking bullshit. I don’t wanna hear that shit. And like ‘Yo, can you just get him to say he ain’t mean it’—NO! I’m not saying that. What I did say is if he wanna talk to me, I’m man enough to let him know why it’s ‘Fuck You’, but it’s still ‘Fuck You’! That’s what it is. I’ll let you know why, I can do that. It ain’t like you gotta worry about me running up on you shooting you. It ain’t that serious. You don’t owe me nothing. But if you want an explanation as to why it’s ‘Fuck You’, I’ll be more than happy to tell you why.

Is DMX Signing To Maybach Music? X Says Rick Ross Extended His Hand To Join Maybach Music Group

New York’s rapper DMX is expected to be released from prison early next month. In an exclusive interview with Vibe magazine, X said that Rick Ross extended  his hands to join his Maybach Music Group. This will be a great look for X. Below are some excerpts from X interview with Vibe:

VIBE: You got major labels interested?

DMX: Yeah. Actually, Rick Ross’ peoples wrote me a letter while I was in here.

Yeah like ‘Yo we got a home for you. We’ll pick you up in a limo. Just come to Miami. Just come, we got you.’

Oh wow, have you thought about that?

I’m thinking about it. It was a good feeling. I respect him as an artist, and I would like to work with him. But he got the whole Illuminati thing going on.  I got fans who write me like ‘I’m glad you’re not a part of that.’ And I don’t know what it’s really about entirely. So it might be like a good thing.

That’s crazy man. Because I don’t know if you heard but right now Rick Ross is on fire. Maybach Music Group signed up a whole bunch of people. Wale, Pill–and they’re really doing it man. That would be a crazy power move if you guys joined up.

Yeah. I have respect for him and he expressed interest that he wanted to work with me while I was out. So I definitely want do a song with him, but I don’t know about the record label thing. I would have to see what his camp is like and feel people out.  I’m not the average artist.

Rapper DMX Denied Bond Again, Ordered To Remain In Jail

Honestly, is there anymore hope left for DMX? I have been supporting this guy throughout his entire music career and now I’m getting to the point where I want to give up on him because he’s keep letting down the people who believe in him. Yesterday Thursday  (December 9th) DMX appeared in a Maricopa County Superior Court room to face the judge for violating the terms of his probation last month. DMX was ordered to remain held without bond. DMX next hearing is December 16th. I really hope that the judge grant him a release so he can be home with his family for the holidays.

According to the Phoenix New Times, the former Ruff Ryder rapper was charged with violating his probation after he allegedly tested positive for alcohol, cocaine and Oxycontin. Additionally, DMX allegedly failed to get the required drug testing and counseling. DMX was also charged with driving on a suspended license.

Someone please get DMX some help and tell him to leave those drugs along. I heard DMX smoke a lot, they said when he roll up his blunts, he like to stuff them with rocks.
