Dominic Lord For LA Canvas

dominiclordcover

Last week, I posted a sneak peek of rising Harlem rapper and fashion designer Dominic Lord photo shoot with LA Canvas magazine. See the original post here. The official cover has gone viral. The “Pierce” rapping rapper is covering the publications September/October 2013Fashion Issue”. He was shot by Conan Thai and styled by Adrian Manuel. LA Canvas is a Los Angeles-based Fashion, Music, Art & Culture magazine.

The fashion trendsetter should be releasing some new music soon. In the meantime, he is killing these photo shoots back and forth. Dominic Lord is so dope! I love his style. He’s really fashionable and marketable. My friend Bryce met him at a basketball screening event in NYC and he told me that Dominic Lord was so cool and humbled.

What are your thoughts on this cover?

Dominic Lord For Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy Clothes

dominiclordforgivenchy1

Shot by famed photographer, Aram Bedrossian, rapper Dominic Lord poses in a Riccardo Tisci Givenchy sweater. I was not able to find the exact sweater that Dominic Lord is wearing because it was most likely custom-made just for him or hasn’t been released to the general public as of time of the press (below is a similar version). This sweater features a two-tone patterns, abstract print, lace-up detailing, printed baseball graphics, banded hem and long sleeves with banded cuffs. You can purchase the similar version of Dominic Lord’s Givenchy sweater at Farfetch, MatchesFashion or SSENSE. Dominic Lord looked dope in this photo shoot. Great sweater, great model, great look, and great shots.

New Music: Dominic Lord “Futuristic Average Kids (Freestyle)”

dominiclordjacket

Harlem World’s rapper and fashion designer Dominic Lord releases his new track, “Futuristic Average Kids (Freestyle)” and he dedicates the Matt Friedman-produced record to the youth growing up now, who are far from the average kids. Lord released his critically acclaimed Fashion Show EP last year. Last November 2012, Gee Robinson signed Lord to Geffen Records. He was the first artist Robinson signed since being appointed Chairman of the label back in 2011.

Lord was recently featured in fashion publication, Dazed & Confused‘s August 2013 ‘93 Til Infinity‘ issue. See the original post here. He also released a photo diary of his trip to Paris with Riccardo Tisci. See the pics here! Lord got his start in fashion designing his own clothes while still a student in high school. “I think that if you’re a fashion lover and you get something new and hot you are going to brag about it – it’s braggadocious,” said Lord.

Dominic Lord Featured In Dazed & Confused’s August 2013 ’93 Til Infinity’ Issue

dominiclorddazedconfusedmag

Dazed & Confused releases its August 2013 ‘93 Til Infinity‘ issue and Harlem-breed rapper Dominic Lord is featured in the publication. Chance The Rapper is on the cover. This issue is dedicated to 1993. But at its core, it’s about the future. For this issue, the British style magazine wanted to shine a spotlight on a selection of emerging music artists, photographers, models and actors born in 1993 from London to New York. Below are some excerpts:

1041712

As they turn 20, that pivotal moment in time when all those teen dreams need to start becoming a reality, we look at how they are redefining pop culture on their own terms, from London to New York. As Howes, a rising producer, puts it in our “20/20 Visions” portfolio: “Twenty is a weird age because you’re too old to call yourself a kid, but not old enough to really have your shit together. That’s a really good thing though. It makes you feel quite invincible.”

Without harnessing the power of the web, Chance The Rapper wouldn’t be staring at you from our cover. In just one day, his mixtape Acid Rap was downloaded 50,000 times. Twenty years ago, that kind of exposure was reserved for artists with a major-label deal and a hefty PR budget. Chance is still willingly unsigned. He’s in no hurry to change the situation.

From Harlem USA To Anna Wintour’s Vogue, Dominic Lord’s New Single “Overworld”

dominic-lord-01_15544555023.jpg_guides_hero

Fashion designer Riccardo Tisci and Dominic Lord

I am so proud of Dominic Lord, I’m rooting for him and I also want him to win. From Harlem USA to Anna Wintour’s Vogue, who premieres the first single, “Overworld” off his upcoming EP. On the track, the 20-year-old baby face star in the making displays his lyrical abilities over an up-tempo beat. The Geffen Records recording artist has been steadily working with famed producers Stargate and Hudson Mohawke, while currently staying in Paris, France. In his Vogue story, Dominic Lord talks to journalist Gillian Sagansky about mixing music and fashion together, his reaction when he first heard the “Overworld” beat, favorite fashion designers and much more. Below are some highlights:

“I approach a song the way a designer approaches clothing—I’m a music designer,” says twenty-year old rapper Dominic Lord (which is, in fact, his real name). The up-and-coming Harlem-bred musician who began performing less than two years ago, is already working closely with mega producers such as Stargate (the Norwegian duo who produce tracks for Beyoncé and Rihanna), and Hudson Mohawke, a key contributor to Kanye West’s new album Yeezus.

His up-tempo song “Overworld,” the first single on his forthcoming EP, was born of a cathartic reaction to a beat his manager first played for him when they were driving around New York City. “I was so riled up, I immediately went upstairs to the studio and recorded it in 30 minutes.” This is typical of Lord’s creative method—he often freestyles over beats and admits to having to go back and “re-learn the lyrics” to his own songs. “Overworld is a word I created; it’s the opposite of underworld. It’s a state of mind more than anything else. It’s about inspiring people to find their inner positivity and knowing that you can do anything.”

But music is not the only thing on his plate. Lord is currently holding court in ParisRiccardo Tisci personally invited Lord to front-row seats at Givenchy’s spring 2014 men’s show and dressed him for the event. The rapper cites Christopher Kane, Damir Doma, Ann Demeulemeester, and of course, Tisci, as his favorite designers. “Riccardo is the leader of the new school,” he declares. “He is someone the youth can relate to. It’s an honor for him to want me at his show.”

BREAKING NEWS: Up & Coming Harlem Rapper Dominic Lord Signs Major Record Deal With Geffen

The bidding war is over! Congrats goes out to up & coming Harlem rapper Dominic Lord. He just signed a major record deal with Geffen Records via Gee Robinson. This makes Dominic the first artist to sign to Geffen since Gee Robinson has been appointed Chairman of the prominent label back in 2011. Gee Robinson also serves as co-CEO of Hip Hop Since 1978, the management firm that handles Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake and more.

Back in August, I labeled Dominic “the next rising star to come out of Harlem”. Before he dropped his mixtape, Fashion Show, Dominic sat in meetings with Geffen, Warner Bros, Def Jam and more. Obviously, Geffen offered him the best deal. Dominic was an early member of the A$AP movement with Rocky, Ferg, Bari, Nast and others.

Dominic is being represented my music manager Steven Victor (Pusha T’s manager) and  entertainment lawyer Theo Sedlmayr (50 Cent, Chief Keef). He has also been in the studio with Stargate, Hudson Mohawke and Benny Blanco. He is currently on the California coast working with producer Young Chop.

This 18-year-old kid is very talented! He has a bright future ahead of him. Dominic, welcome to the music industry, give it all you have and take your talents pass the stars.
