kerry_washington-essence_nov_cover

Scandal actress Kerry Washington wears a Rafael Cennamo gold dress on the cover of Essence magazine’s November 2013 issue. For this issue, the Emmy nominee was styled by celebrity stylist June Ambrose. Inside, Washington talks about why her role as Olivia Pope has more impact on America then we think.

They are allowing an educated, intelligent, powerful, complicated, human, flawed, multidimensional Black woman into their homes. They’re not walking past her on the street, they’re not trying to avoid engaging her, they’re not ignoring her and pretending she’s somebody else’s family and somebody else’s problem…,” said Washington.

Season 3 of Scandal premieres tonight on ABC at 10pm. Are you tuning in? I am! Let’s support Black Hollywood. The November 2013 issue of Essence magazine hits newsstands October 1oth.

In related Kerry Washington news, yesterday Wednesday (October 2), the Bronx, New York-native and George Washington University graduate was spotted at NYC’s Paley Center for a special event in her honor, “She’s Making Media: Kerry Washington“. While there, Washington talked about the contributions of Black actresses to the arts and also commented on her own political activism with the John Kerry and President Obama campaigns.

Dangerously In Love: Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade Cover The February 2012 Issue Of Essence

Super-hot couple Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade are covering the February issue of Essence magazine. The Miami Heat player is looking all dapper in his white blazer and dark-colored slacks. Actress Gabby is styling on them hoes in a nice yellow gown. Below are some excerpts:

Spend any amount of time with actress Gabrielle Union and Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade and it quickly becomes clear that their relationship is nothing like the complicated ties you see on reality TV. The super-hot couple are both on the top of their game both professionally and physically — with Union remaining in high demand over the course of her 16-year career and Wade widely regarded as one of the best players in the NBA. But their love has come at a steep price. When the couple’s courtship started, the blogs lit up with rumors and accusations. But love rises above the chatter. That’s how you know it’s real.”

We’re not rushing it. Both of us have been married before, and we understand that if we choose to marry again, we want it to be right. We both took failing at marriage hard. The next time it’s gotta be forever,” said Dwyane Wade.

Read their story in ESSENCE’s February issue, on newsstands January 12th.

Front Page: 50 Cent Covers Jet Magazine & Kelly Rowland Gracing “Essence Hot Hair” Issue

Entertainment mogul 50 Cent is covering the upcoming issue of JET magazine. In the cover story, the Queens native talked about his Street King project, relationship with his son, being a bully and his latest publication, Playground.

I was [a bully] at different points during my childhood,” said 50 Cent. “I was dealing with my emotions the wrong way. From a child’s perspective, you don’t understand. As an adult, you get that’s not the way to deal with things.”

My son is 15, and I have conversations with him about things like this. He isn’t being bullied, but he meets people who have expectations of him because of the aggressive energy that I have and the content of the material I create. They look at him like he’s supposed to be like that,” he shares. “But he’s not. He doesn’t even know what it feels like to need for something. When we didn’t have any money, he was too young to notice.”

Singer Kelly Rowland is gracing the cover of the 2nd annual issue of “Essence Hot Hair” where she admits her love for wigs.

“I’m in love with wigs. I get them custom-made, and I have my hairstylist shape them to my head. I can go from short to long in less than a minute!”

Men Of Sports: Amar’e Stoudemire In Essence Magazine

New York Knick’s player Amar’e Stoudemire has a spread in this month’s issue of Essence magazine “Men of Sports” issue. In the feature, Stoudemire talked about giving back to his community, what people are surprised to know about him, his passion and what outfits women can wear to turn his head. This issue also features other athletes such as James Ihedigbo, Curtis Granderson and Kerron Clement. Read some excerpts below:

On how he gives back to the community

My foundation is helping to cure poverty through education, especially in the hood. Everyone needs to see the link between education and getting a better job.

What you’d be surprised to know about him

I read a lot. I wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up. I still consider it after I retire.

His biggest passion (besides basketball and education, of course)

Fashion, I love Tom Ford button-downs and his tailored suits. Whenever I’m dressed up, it gives me a positive energy.

The outfit a woman can wear to turn his head

Anything from my women’s fashion line with Rachel Roy, due out this fall. Our clothes are comfortable and sexy, perfect for looking great on your way to a game.
