Singer Ciara covers the September 2013 issue of Paper magazine. For the publication’s latest issue, the multi platinum singer, dancer and model was styled by Natalie Joos and shot at Fast Ashleys Studio by industry photographer Danielle Levitt. In her fashion spread, Cici styled in designer brands including Christian Siriano, Marc Jacobs, Christian LouboutinMissguided, Jeremy Scott, Christian Dior and more. Inside, Cici talked about being less guarded than before, her relationship with Future, upbringings, journey and much more. Below are some highlights:

On being less guarded than she used to be:

“I thought it was better to be private,” admits the 27-year-old. “But self-reflection helped me to say, ‘You need to live more. If you worry so much about things, your head is going to explode. Just live. Something has to give.’ I was holding back so much that I wasn’t letting myself explore and live.”

On her relationship with her boyfriend, rapper Future:

“He’s very understanding,” she tells me, “and he’s my best friend. It’s important to have a feeling that you can talk about anything and know a person’s going to be there and support you. When we’re together, it’s not about who we are. I feel very normal, very safe and loved.

On her upbringings, energy and her journey:

I’m what you call ‘love rich,'” she relates. “We didn’t have all the money in the world, but I had all the attention. I grew up spoiled with love. “I wasn’t trained to sing and dance,” she adds, “but I knew I had something special and decided to explore it. I’ve been growing in front of the world, and I want to keep growing.” Dad helped by regularly gliding around with her wherever they happened to be living. “He taught me some of my moves,” Ciara beams. “Some mean footwork!”

Russell Westbrook Gets Stylish In Designers For Paper Magazine

bps_russelwestbrook

NBA players Russell Westbrook who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder gets stylish in designers for Paper magazine. The three-time All-Star point guard styled in a Gucci jacket and Lacoste pants which he accessorized with a Hermes belt, Oliver People glasses and a Rolex watch. Westbrook has an obsession with high-end fashion and he is often spotted sitting front row at New York Fashion Week. Over the past few months, I realized that Westbrook is very flamboyant with all his bright colors, prints and patterns. Below are some excerpts:

“Russell Westbrook is an aggressive player on the court. The starting point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder is known for hitting acrobatic layups and unblockable pull-up jump shots. But Westbrook made his riskiest play last year at a postgame press conference, where he wore a pair of fire-truck red full frames and a Lacoste shirt covered in antique fishing lures. Never mind that the young Thunder team had just demolished the Lakers — where’d he get that shirt?

Westbrook’s love of patterns goes back to childhood–he remembers posing for a middle school portrait in a Platinum FUBU shirt with an all-over Fat Albert print. Though he visits the malls in Oklahoma City, he mostly trolls websites for ideas. ‘Online shopping is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.‘”

The sexy and talented Nicki Minaj is covering the latest issue of Paper Magazine. On the cover, Minaj is sporting a green wig, wearing a pink blazer with a yellow shirt. In the interview, she reveals Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper and Janet Jackson are her style icons, talked about fame and her new album. Below are some excerpts:

This year, fame came at you like a freight train. How are you handling your world domination? Are you sleeping at night?

Ugh! I have been working sooo much. Success came and now that somany eyes are on me, I feel I have to deliver. And it’s a business. No joke. I guess I am stressing more than I should be, and I think I am becoming more guarded.

Who are your biggest style icons?

Grace Jones definitely. So amazing. And Cyndi Lauper, I loved her right from when I was a little girl. And Janet Jackson of course. And Boy George. I always loved the way he dressed, and his music too.

Tell me about your new album. What is the vibe?

The album is like a collage of all my emotions. I am not sticking to any particular style. I am doing what I feel without restrictions. So it’s very free and very me.

When Fashion & Music Meets: More From PAPER’s Summer Music Issue Cover Shoot with Swizz Beatz

Earlier in the summer, I reported that music producer Swizz Beatz is covering the “Summer Music” issue of Paper magazine. Swizzy shares a three issued cover with Santigold and Joe Jonas. Swizz is gearing up to release his new album, which was titled, Haute Living, but instead Swizzy released it as a mixtape. His official album will be out this Fall. Below are some excerpts from Swizzy interview:

On people being a fan of him and his music.

People are fans of my music more than fans of me, Swizz Beatz, because they don’t know me.”

On partnering-up with Christian Louboutin

Man, I crossed bridges in the industry that should stop water,” he says. “Me coming from the South Bronx and partnering up with Christian Louboutin — we’re not supposed to be in that world!

Gimme the Beatz: Swizz Beatz Covers Paper Magazine

Super producer Swizz Beatz is covering the latest issue of Paper magazine.

So here’s an introduction to Swizz Beatz.

He was born Kasseem Dean in the South Bronx and starting around 1998, began making music under the moniker Swizz Beatz as the in-house producer for hip-hop’s notorious Ruff Ryders camp. Swizz crafted hits for acts like DMX, Eve, Drag-On and the LOX. The Ruff Ryders’ sound was one of the most aggressive and unlikely on radio — hit songs that made people want to hit each other. And when he first started making music, Swizz would brag in interviews that most of his beats took him 15 minutes or less to make. He went on to produce albums for a who’s who of the R&B and rock worlds and make music on his own, which for the most part flew under the radar.

Nicki Minaj Spread And Interview With Paper Magazine

It’s a chilly Los Angeles evening and the rapper Nicki Minaj, having just finished her photo shoot, has traded in her impossibly-high heels for lavender fuzzy slippers as she settles into the studio’s couch in a Bushwick-y stretch of L.A. just south of downtown. She cracks a Coke and a smile, her warm pink lips curling back to reveal her Cheshire Cat grin beneath her white wig, vaguely-Asian eyes and gorgeously chiseled nose. It’s this mix of round-the-way girl and exotic future-vamp that’s made her pop so powerful against the saggy backdrop of hip-hop. “I just know that I’ve always been visual,” she says.

The 25-year-old, born Onika Maraj in Trinidad and raised in Queens, is leaving an impressive lip-blot on the tissue of hip-hop, one ear-popping featured performance at a time.

Minaj rose up through the hip-hop ranks by appearing on over 30 tracks, alongside heavyweights like Ludacris, Drake, Lil’ Wayne and Usher. But her 2009 mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty, is Minaj 101. On “Still I Rise,” she waxes Eminem-like on a more Elton John-like subject: “And I only stop for pedestrians, or real real bad lesbians.” It’s lines like these that have made her hip-hop’s gayest MC — a Jay-Z for the drag queens, as it were. “I see videos on YouTube where they impersonate me, and they do an amazing freaking job of dressing up as me,” she says. In past interviews she’s mentioned her own bi-curious leanings and has predicted hip-hop will one day embrace its first openly gay artist. But as far as being a gay-positive presence in hip-hop, Minaj insists, “I didn’t set out to do that. I just like to put a spotlight on the people who support me, and it just so happens, you know, that the gay community has supported me — more than I ever could have imagined.”
