Shots Fired! Music Mogul 50 Cent Says Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV” Sales Are “Suspect”

Russell Simmons’ site Global Grind recently chatted with 50 Cent for a brief conversation. During the convo, Lil Wayne’s name was mentioned and 50 questioned his latest album Tha Carter IV  first week sales. The disc almost sold a million albums in the first week. Some people including 50 Cent doesn’t believe Weezy’s 1st week sales:

To be honest with you, the Lil Wayne sales are a little suspect to me. Because it was trending 600,000 pieces that week. And they didn’t do a million copies, it was like 900,000.”

As far as  Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, which sold a million copies in the first week back in 2008, 50 gives Lil Wayne credit:

Tha Carter III was definitely hot. He did that.”

50 Cent then added:

Tha Carter III commanded that energy, but the last one that just came out, those numbers are funny.”

Lil Wayne: Tha Carter IV Leaked Online, “She Will” Debuts On Hot 100, Plus Cortez Bryant & Birdman Speak On TC4

Lil Wayne‘s latest single “She Will” Ft. Drake has debuted at #3 on Billboard‘s Hot 100. The track is off Weezy’s upcoming LP Tha Carter IV. This is Weezy’s highest-ever opening rank on the chart. In other Weezy news, just like most major Hip-Hop albums, Tha Carter IV leaked online.

Lil Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant, spoke to Rolling Stone on August 24th, and was feeling very confident that Weezy’s new album wouldn’t leak. “I think we’re lucky this timeWe held it until the last moment we could, and we didn’t send any songs or beats by e-mail – we used iChat, or a person had to get on a plane to share music…I’m knocking on wood before I get off the phone with you and it’s all over the Internet.”

Unfortunately, they weren’t too lucky because the album leaked hours after Bryant got off the phone with Rolling Stone.

Birdman speaks on Tha Carter 4

This is one of the biggest releases of the year, and we wanted to make sure that everybody got to play their part at the same time.

Birdman on wanting to sell a million-plus in the first week and being okay with leaks.

The goal is to sell a million-plus copies,” he explains. Birdman says he’s actually okay with leaks, to a point. “I can deal with it for short period of time. It’s when you have a leak out for a long time that it’s crazy.”

Tha Carter IV will go on sale digitally on iTunes at midnight on August 29th.

THE SOUTH VS THE EAST: Why Jay-Z Should Respond To Lil Wayne

As I previous reported earlier in the week, the interweb went crazy after Lil Wayne released a track titled “It’s Good” Ft. Jakakiss and Drake. On the track, Weezy took shots at Jay-Z. The track is featured on Weezy’s upcoming album Tha Carter IV; dropping this Tuesday (August 29).

On the track Weezy said, “Talkin’ ’bout baby money, I got your baby money/Kidnap your bitch, get that ‘How much you love your lady?’ money.

In the beginning of the Year, Jay-Z & Kanye West released a track, titled “H.A.M,” in which many thought Jay-Z was coming at Birdman. “I’m like really half a billi, nigga/Really you got baby money/Keep it real with niggas/Niggas ain’t got my lady money,” Jay rapped.

I’m going gives you guys my reasons on why Jay-Z should respond to Lil Wayne. “Let me start off by saying that as a prominent Hip-Hop Blogger/Journalist & Music Manager, I am a big fan of Jay-Z’s and is a fan of Lil Wayne’s. In my eyes, both of these guys are great. I will continue to strongly support both artists. I truly think Weezy’s diss toward Hova is nothing more than a publicity stunt to increase the first week sells of his forthcoming LP Tha Carter IV. For some reason, I do not think that Jay-Z going respond. Jay even said that the only two artists he would respond too are Nas and Eminem; because he thinks that they’re the only artists who could compete with him lyrically. However, Jay should respond because this would be a dope battle for Hip-Hop. Isn’t Hip-Hop all about competition? There haven’t been a good Hip-Hop battle since 50 Cent and Ja Rule or Nas and Jay-Z. I’m not trying to choose sides, but lyrically I think Jay would win this battle. Another reason why Jay should respond is because Weezy took shots at his wife Beyoncé. No man should ever get by with disrespecting another man wife. Finally Jay should respond because he need to show some new rappers that he still has the crown. If Jay does respond, it would most likely be in a subliminal way.”-Don Bleek
