Producer, Rapper, Artist, Fashion Director, Creative Director = RENAISSANCE MAN! Swizz Beatz’s Interview With Uptown Magazine

I am a person whose expertise spans a significant number of different subject areas = RENAISSANCE MAN,” says Swizz Beatz. The multi talented “One man band man” himself is more than a record producer. He’s a rapper, fashion designer, creative director for Reebok, designer for Aston Martin, art collector and a professor at New York University. Most importantly, Swizzy is a husband and great father to four (3 boys and 1 girl). Uptown magazine caught up with the homie Swizzy. Below are some excerpts; read the interview in its entirety over at Uptown.

My strongest childhood memories are of…
The South Bronx. Keith Haring’s “Crack Is Wack” graffiti on handball courts. I remember playing skelzies and riding BMX bikes. I remember my grandparents calling me through the window telling me it’s time to come inside.

The advice I give to young producers is…
Always stay original. Always push yourself. Where a lot of people go wrong, they listen to too many people when it comes to their life. If I would have listened to everybody, I wouldn’t be Swizz Beatz, I would still be a DJ. Use your own intuition. Use your bones; they will always tell you the truth.

My greatest accomplishment is…
Getting out of the ’hood. Straight up. To be able to get out of the mix and wake up in the middle of the Mediterranean somewhere is a super blessing.

Inspiration comes from…
Traveling. I see how people live and dress. I see the music that different cultures make.

The trait I admire most in a woman is…
Honesty.

Words to live by…
The sky is not the limit; it’s just the view.
