Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, & Jamie Foxx Covers Vibe December 2012/January 2013

Successful Hollywood actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx alongside actress Kerry Washington are covering the December 2012/January 2013 issue of Vibe Magazine. Below are some highlights:

Django Unchained isn’t a blaxploitation slavery flick. Jamie Foxx, who plays a gun-slinging slave on the warpath, reunites with Kerry Washington for the epic tale, while Leonardo DiCaprio finally puts on his black hat and goes dark. Gathered at a Manhattan studio, the big three explain how they mastered the art of telling this historically hot-button story. —Erik Parker

JAMIE FOXX knows what you’re thinking when you see him as a shivering slave in the trailer for his latest film, Django Unchained. This is no Roots. It’s not like he didn’t know his role in Quentin Tarantino’s latest backslap to Hollywood conventions would confuse some and infuriate others. He’s smirking atop a horse in a powder blue costume while going all badass on white folks like some Dolomite slave fantasy for goodness sake. But according to Foxx, 45, and key members of the all-star cast–Leonardo DiCaprio and Kerry Washington–they half-expected the verbal lynching.

With Django Unchained, Tarantino adapts his familiar revenge themes (Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds) to the story of a slave gone rogue in the name of love. In this flick, the genre-splicing director tracks Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave who is recruited by a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) who happens to be hunting the men who sold Django’s wife (Kerry Washington, 35) to the most wicked of all plantation owners, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Rick Ross Covers VIBE’s June/July Sexy Issue!

Miami’s rapper and soon-to-be music mogul Rick Ross is gracing the cover of the June/July “Sexy Issue” of Vibe magazine. Vibe Writes:

Hip-hop’s biggest bawse let’s it all hang out for VIBE’s Sexy issue! Check out an excerpt from his x-rated cover story where The Breakfast Club’s sassy host Angela Yee getsRick RossWaleMeek Mill and Pill to talk candidly and crassly about all things sex. And be sure to keep an eye out for our second cover reveal.

YOU DON’T REALIZE how colossal Rick Ross is until he removes his white Tee. It’s startling. Six feet of portly tattooed excess, his drooping pecs flexing as he hulks through the Danish contemporary SoHo furniture store BoConcept. Rozay is shooting his first solo VIBE cover—the sexy issue, no less—and a memo from Captain Conspicuous reads that Ross is not the conventional poster child for the cause. He doesn’t sing bra-popping hooks like Trey Songz or lyrically pander and pucker to women like Drake. But the Miami native wears a quiet confidence that shouts at anyone within earshot, seemingly lessons from the Christopher Wallace school of swag (or “schwaag,” as Ross articulates).

This issue hits newsstands June 7th.

New Interview: Meagan Good Talks Keyshia Cole, Wearing The Same Clothes Twice, Desire To Play Whitney Houston & More

While at the Playboy Superbowl in Dallas this past weekend, Actress/Singer Meagan Good sat down with Vibe magazine. During her interview, Good talked about her new group, helping Keyshia Cole get her start in this business, wearing the same clothes  more than once, playing Whitney Houston and much more. Read the interview below.

A lot of people were surprised to hear that you’re in a girl group now. I know your sister’s in it as well. How did that come about?

When me and my sisters were kids, I was about 14 or 16, we had been in a singing group together for a long time and I went away to do Eve’s Bayou and she decided to pursue the music route. So my acting career did what it did and then she joined the group Isyss and she did what she did. And then once the group fell apart, she went to another group for a while. I went into a group with the two twins that were in ATL, we were signed with Lil’ Kim’s label.

Oh damn, so this girl group game is far from new to you. What was the name of that last group?

So embarrassing. I was 19. It was 10 years ago. It was called Phyne. It was back in the day when it was kind of okay to have names like that. Our producer was Damon Elliott who did “Love” on Keyshia Cole’s first album. That’s kind of a crazy story because I met Keyshia when she first came from Oakland and was just trying to figure out how to get started with her singing career and I was doing Biker Boyz at the time and I had just dropped out of the group and Damon was very upset with me and I had met Keyshia and I said, “Look this girl’s amazing, you need to work with her, see if you can help her out.” And they got together and did “Love” and five other songs on her first [album]. That’s actually how Keyshia Cole started doing her thing.

Ah, so you had a hand in Keyshia’s beginning?

[Yeah] that’s my girl; I love her to death. So besides that, I still had the music bug, but I wanted to be a very serious actor. I still do. I want the Oscar. But the music thing just kept coming up and then by best friend Amy and her girlfriend Sterling started a kind of punk band and I kept coming to their performances and my sister was doing her solo thing and one day [Sterling] and Amy came to me and said what do you think if we do a band? I thought it was a good idea but was like, “What kind of music will we do?” So we sat down and were like, “Alright our favorite type of music is rock n roll, kind of punkish.” And so we decided to do the band and met up with producer Rob Bolt, who’s done a lot with Fergie, Radiohead, Puddle of Mudd –a lot of great rock bands. He helped us develop a sound.

Former Video Vixen Melyssa Ford Speaks On Kat Stacks And Goes In On Essence Magazine

In an exclusive interview with Vibe magazine, former Video Vixen Melyssa Ford  said “Kat Stacks is hiding in plain sight, and if you choose to put blinders on then that’s your bad.” Also Melyssa blasted Essence magazine for the controversial titled How To Keep Black Men Happy and Faithful, on their latest issue. Also, Melyssa felt that Supermodel Naomi Campbell shouldn’t be on the cover of the last issue because of her anger management issues and an overwhelming sense of entitlement.

No, I don’t like Melyssa Ford but my personal issues does not have anything to do with what I am about to say. “If Essence ran a cover on Melyssa Ford they will be putting her on a pedestal and she don’t deserve to be put on a pedestal because she isn’t a role-model. I don’t care if she’s no longer a video vixen, she is still that girl who shake her ass in videos half-naked and was featured in other magazines half-naked. Let’s not forget that Melyssa Ford is the same girl who was f**king rappers on the set of their videos. I don’t like how she always try to act like she’s a good girl.”-DonBleek

On Kat Stacks Invincibility: She’s gotten slapped three times? If somebody really wanted to do something to her, they probably would have done it already. Basically, what she proved is that people just talk a lot of shit, because she just keeps coming back. She’s like, “Y’all ain’t gonna hold me down. I’m gonna continue doing what I do. Yeah, I got slapped. Now I’m going to protect myself from that shit. But guess what, I’m gonna keep on talking.’ She’s never made a secret of what she is or what she’s doing and what her motivation is. It’s clear cut, so it’s your bad if you choose to get involved with it. It’s funny that she happens to be the one doing it. She’s reflecting the mirror back on the person who chooses to talk shit about her. A bunch of rappers are like, ‘She ain’t shit,’ but y’all are the ones that fucking connected with her on Twitter, met up with her, fucked her and bought her shit. The fact of the matter is, she ended up with your personal information for a reason. You gave it to her. So, you can’t really condemn somebody for doing exactly what they said they would do. I think she’s a total enigma. She came out of left field. She hasn’t made apologies for any of her behavior and people keep falling victim to it, even though she promotes the person that she is. It’s like she’s hiding in plain sight. That is the perfect thing to say about her. Kat Stacks is hiding in plain sight, and if you choose to put blinders on then that’s your bad.
