Last year, music artist and fashion designer Kanye West debuted his KW by Kanye West clothing line during ‘Paris Fashion Week’. The first time around, critics weren’t too pleased and they even went as far as slandering the rapper’s collection. The New York Times, Eric Wilson said, “What Mr. West eventually showed was confusing…it was obvious that most of the clothes suffered from a poor fit.”
The second time around (March 6, 2012), Kanye West debuted its Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection in Paris again. Models walked the runway in a total of 20 different looks which included leather, furs and biker jackets. The collection improved and received positive reviews. “This collection looks like he has had a lot of consultants working with him,” wrote the WSJ’s Christina Binkley. “But it’s way better than before.”
As far as the current status of KW by Kanye West, we don’t know if it is still in existing or discontinued but we do know that Karla Otto, which represents the KW Collection, confirmed to WWD that the music artist will not show a Spring 2013 collection in Paris this week.
“Kanye West will not be showing his collection at Paris Fashion Week this season, WWD has learned. The rapper has long been a front-row fixture at fashion shows and has made no secret of his ambition to join the ranks of luxury designers, teaming up with Giuseppe Zanotti to create extravagantly priced shoes that were sold at Paris concept store Colette.”
“Critics gave his first two outings in the French capital lukewarm reviews, and in recent months, West appears to have turned his attention to styling new flame Kim Kardashian (arecent episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” showed him throwing out “ghetto” items from her closet). The pair showed up at the Paris couture shows in July, taking in the Stéphane Rolland and Valentino shows. Officials at Karla Otto, which represents the Kanye West line, confirmed he would not be showing, but declined to say whether the line was discontinued.”
